Hi!

ok here my problem:
i have a programm and a btrieve DB and want to convert the data.

but there are no ddf files but the system is running and the microkernel is showing the access from the other programm. is there a way to get the datafiles or ddf files?

can i make the kernel to write the ddf files?

Btrieve itself does not use or create the DDFs. There are several third party programs available at the Pervasive Component ZOne ( that can be used to create DDFs.
Some basic knowledge of the field structure will help generate better DDFs. Btrieve does not need the DDFs nor does it store field information because it allows the developer to define the record layout.

You should check with the application vendor to see if they can supply you with DDFs, that is the easiest way. You then also have to check the DDFs to see if they are up to date and match the data correctly because there are lots of old bad DDFs that don't match the data properly. If you can't get DDFs from the app vendor, you can make them yourself, but it's tedious and not 100% assurred of success since you will be guessing at some of the non-indexed field data. This is not usually a trivial task. You can export the data to an 'unformatted file' which is the raw data with a record length preceeding it - do this with Butil -save. You then still have to figure out what the data is. Pervasive and several 3rd party consultants can also create DDFs for you in most cases, but it's not cheap so the question is how much is this project worth or going to save you or make you more efficient? You can contact Pervasive at their sales@pervasive.com e-mail or by phone and they will work with you to geet this done if you really need it solved.
