I am having problems with logging into to an old IBM 360 running AIX 4.1. I can't log in as root or as a user. I can ping the machine but can't telnet to it. There are no errors on boot up. I know I can boot to single user mode doing s shutdown -m, but my problems is that I can't login to get a terminal window. I know the username and passwords are correct. Is there any way I can interrupt the boot process like doing a ctrl+\ on HP? Any information would be greatly apprecaited.

Thanks in advance,

If you have the AIX 4.1 media, I would suggest booting from the media, and go into maintenance mode from there.

Hi Skeater,

Thanks for the quick response. In that situation I am in another dilema. This machine was configured at another location and sent to us. I currently don't have the AIX 4.1 media. Do you know of a place where I can find a AIX 4.1 boot floppy?

Thanks,

Can you send a break during bootup to get to a loader prompt? If you can interrupt the autoboot you may be able to invoke single user mode in that way. Usually though you must boot from system tape/disk.

Hi I have the system IBM Power PC and OS is AIX 4.3.2 but I forgot the Root password. So What i did, I boot the system from CD and press F5 and then go to option 3 ( Maintanence Mode) and then I went to single user mode and Chnage the root password
# passwd root

But when I reboot the system i takes the root and new passwd but it is not giving me the CDE.

What could be the problem ?

It's probably something in your .profile. Does it give you CLI?
