Blackberry Sync With Outlook

Ok here is my problem.
I have a user who when trying to sync with outlook and Intellisync just quits with out an error.

He is using outlook 2003 with the latest version of the desktop manager.
I also upgraged the firmware to 4.0
I tried to delete the desktop manager profile(saw this from another thread)
and none of this seems to be working...it seems like fewer things are now working...
does anyone have any other ideas?????

Is the user syncing up within your network or is he in the field.. Do you have BES

The user is on my network but is syncing with a local copy of outlook...he is not on our exchange server at this time.
We don't have the Blackberry server but will be installing it soon I belive
