BE Remote Agent can't start

BE 8.5 r/3572 on Win2000
Remote backup job fails because BE Remote Agent is not present.
I try to start the service but an error message tells me: "the system cannot find the file"
If I go to C:\BENTAA, I can see that the file beremote.exe exist in this folder.
If I execute this file, a black windows (DOS) displays for a fraction of a second but wouldn't start the service.
I added the group SYSTEM to the allowed groups to start services or to run this program, still doesn't work.
Am I missing anyhting here?
Am I after the wrong file?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

When you install BE Remote, it will install itself on the backup server and the remote server that you wish to backup.
Did it install correctly to that remote server? Did you enter the license for Remote Agent on your BE server? Check the remote server's c: for a folder ntaa. I don't remember, but in the services on the remote server, there is a service for backup exec remote agent, AUTO, STARTED.(definitely on a W2k server).
If the remote server still has problems, then do the following on the REMOTE SERVER.
insert the BE CD
at the command prompt, on the CD type:
cd winnt\be\install\eng\i386\ntaa
run the file setupaa.cmd
Wait until you get the prompt back
Now REMOTE Agent is installed on your remote server. You can check in the Services section to see it running.

If the problem is w/the BE Server, is the RA the only thing not running? If you can't run BE at all, even though you installed everything correctly, you will need to install MDAC 2.5 or 2.6 from Microsoft. Usually I would use the latest 2.6 but when that didn't work (file in use errors), then I used the 2.5.
