bcm 50 lockup

i had a bcm 50 lockup the other day. only incoming calls would work, outbound you pick up a trunk but the call went no-where. these are analog trunks. also two phones just flashed and were not usable. Voicemail would not work. I pulled the power to the system and it came back. I figured a power problem but just looking for some ideas. HDD?

Ok.. What release of software? I remember this problem in a 1.0 and there is a patch for this issue.

it is a 2.0 and no-one knows the password through element manager!!

try the default password. I know you are asked to change it when first starting up a system, but to save time I just re-enter the default password..

oh, i've tried the default and it doesn't work. i can manage the system just fine with a phone but nothing with element manager.

Should I be worried about the hdd?

You can always do a level 2 reset, but you would lose all your programming. But at least all the passwords would be back to default.

whats the difference between a level 1 and a level 2 reset. I would not want to loose any licensing. Also there is a USB drive in the BCM, is that useful at all to retrieving the password?

The USB drive is used for uploading/installing patches or for storing backups, etc.

Both L1 and L2 resets lose all settings and stored information (including IP settings, voip trunk configs, voicemail settings and data, all telephony configuration, keycodes, etc).

The difference is that an L2 reset will also remove all software patches (including upgrades) that have been applied.

the system is only used as a key system with voicemail, no IP phones, no IP trunks. Will the voicemail also be defaulted?

It would be fairly easy to re-program, would I have to be concerned with initial system configuration (dip switches, offsets like with the BCm 400)

no! no off sets for the 50.

It would be helpful to the customer if you could get the latest patchs for 2.0 from nortel to install on the system after your reset.
