Hi,

I need to replace antiquated C ITOH industrial barcode printers (terminator t-4). These printers are just too slow, it seems like it's the printer's actual barcode generation that's taking the extra time.

it goes print/pause/print/pause, pausing between each label. Because we do a serial # on each label, each one is unique (we didn't have the pause when we were only doing the upc).

Any recommendations on barcode printer brands & models? or brands & models to avoid?

thanks,

If your label is using True Type fonts or graphics it will be slower. Does each label have different info. or do you just need say 50 of one type and so on.

Zebra is good and so is DataMax.
If you have a Large label 4" x 10" or something then
to get the speed up you need a FAST 32 bit RISC Processor and lots of on board Memory in the Printer. 200 DPI printer are faster than 300 DPI
also if the label width is less than 4" it's faster than 6" wide printers. DougP, MCP

Thanks for the reply Doug!

we're not using true type fonts. I'm just sending printer commands to the printer. (citoh has a language, where you indicate position, type, size & content of the label & the printer generates the graphics).

We're currently using 4" labels.

re: qty of labels - we were doing 50 of one kind, when we only had upc#s, now w/ a unique serial# on each, each label is unique. this is when things started slowing down.

thanks for the hint re: 200-300dpi

Willy

Try a Zebra Z4M.

Where is your data coming from ? If it's ODBC compliant, BarTender is a pretty good BarCode generation program.
