I was using an anonymizer type of program the other day when I registered at another forum. After I posted my first question, a few hours later, I was not allowed to respond under the handle I created. I don't think there was anything inappropriate in the post, so could my user name have been banned because they detected I was using an anonymous IP program?

Without a doubt! If others are able to gain the same access you were then this would lead to the potential for abuse without being able to better identify the user who was abusing the system.

A lot of networks check for open relay capabilities on hosts that connect to them. It is also possible that the blocking of the anonymizer has nothing to do with your post, but could be another users post...
