I have a computer not connected to a network and the background has changed to an Internet wallpaper. All the icons are gone. I went to display properties and I change the background. But upon rebooting the background changes back to a web page that says Download trailer click here. Now I scanned the computer and didn't find any viruses, spyware, or rouge programs. I am really stumped. Any and all help will be appreciated.

In Display Properties/ Desktop/ Web, do you have anything in there selected?

No there is nothing there. It has the option for My Home Page, but it is not checked.

Lots of ideas come forward in these threads, maybe you should try System Restore first as it will save you reading the long threads?

I have checked the show icons on desktop and they are all checked. So what I did I went to safe mode and the icons are not there. I switched to the administrator profile in safe mode and the icons are there. So what I did I created a new account and when I restarted the computer and logged into the new account all the icons are present. I did try system restore and no fix. I was able to change the background but now I need to fix the icon problem. One more thing I copied and exe file and pasted on desktop and the icon never appeared on the desktop, so I did it again and then I got the message if wanted to replace existing file with the new one I was trying to add. No icon still. This is really weird.

You could try and fix what seems like a corrupted profile concerning your username.

What do things look like in your original user's folders?

C:\Documents and Settings\Usernamexxxx\Desktop, have you any icons in that folder? Can you access the folder?
