Have a avaya partner phone system R5 need to know if I set up mail boxes for each phone and all lines ring on all phones
will one of the mail boxes answer the incoming call ?
are will the line just ring until someone picks up.
On internal calls intercom calls station to station
or a transfered call need voice mail to pick up.
is this possible ?
Nortel norstar this will not work if lines are ringing on set and set if forward to voice mail dn. voice mail will
pick up.

Everything you have listed is possible, but you need to specify what it is you want to happen.

You can have line answered by the Auto Attendant, or you can have lines answered by a specific mailbox.

You can have transferred calls answered by a mailbox, or not. You can toggle the mailbox coverage on and off, if desired.

I would recommend going to and getting the manual for the ACS R5 and the particular voicemail that you are using with it.

Let me re word this
can the avaya partner intercom internal station to station calls only
on busy no answer forward to voice mail box

External calls (out side co trunks )just ring on all sets
until someone picks up ?

all lines ring on all phones

just want only transfer calls and intercom to intercom

calls forward to voice mail box on each phone.

will that work if how to program

Yup, by default the incoming lines ring on all phones. By default, the incoming lines are NOT answered by either the Auto Attendant or a Mailbox.

For each extension that has a mailbox, assign Automatic VMS Coverage, so that calls from extension to extension, and outside calls TRANSFERRED to an extension, will cover to VM if not answered.

So, go into System Programming, at Ext. 10 or 11
Feature 00
Left Intercom Twice

Check that the lines are NOT assigned to the Auto Attendant, by dialing #206-7-(line number)-2. Repeat for each line.

Make sure that there is no Covering Extension for the lines by dialing #208-(line number) and pressing the CLEAR button if there is an extension assigned. Repeat for each line.

Assign Auto VMS Coverage to each extension with a mailbox, with #310-(extension number)-1. Repeat for each extension.

Press the Right Intercom button to get to Centralized Telephone Programming. Dial an extension number. If the lines are lit up Solid Green, they are set to ring on the incoming call. If they are flashing or fluttering, press each line button to toggle until they are solid. Repeat for each extension in the system
