I just did a fresh install of Office 2007 on one of the computers in our office, and for some reason, the autofill feature doesn't seem to work. For example, if I type "Dece" on our other computers, a box pops up suggesting "December", but on this computer nothing comes up.

I'm not too worried about dates like that, but I need the autotext entries to pop up, and at this point, they are not. I assume that the autotext will work if I can get the dates to popup.

I went into the AutoComplete settings on one of our other computers that is working correctly, and copied the settings, and entered them into this computer, but for some reason it still is not working.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

FYI, "December" is not a DATE.

It is part of Built-In Custom Lists, like months of the year or days of the week.

These are TEXT. Dates are NUMBERS.

You might find in the OFFICE button in Excel and the OPTIONS button. Can't say for sure, though.

BTW, I have never seen it as a DropDown. Rather as a list generator when you drag the Fill Handle.

It sounds like you're describing AutoComplete behavior. That's where the desired word already appears somewhere in the column, and as soon as you type enough of the string to indicate a particular string, Excel suggests that string.

-> In Excel 2007, are you trying this in the same worksheet as on the 2003 computers? If you're trying this in an empty worksheet, what you're seeing is normal behavior. But if this is the same workbook and worksheet, then go to Office Button > Excel Options > Advanced and make sure that the box beside Enable AutoComplete is checked.

Thanks for the quick replies.

I'm sorry I didn't specify, I'm having this problem in Word.

I understand that this is an AutoComplete function, but I guess what I should have asked is; is there a way to turn on/off the autoComplete functionality in Word?

I've checked to verify that the words that I want to autoComplete are in the list, but I don't get the pop-up box with suggestions.

Thanks again for the suggestions, if you can think of anything further I'd appreciate it!

In Word 2003, select menu item Insert, Autotext, Autotext and check Show AutoComplete suggestions.

Hope this is what you were looking for.

There is no autocomplete in Word 2007 except for date parts.

You should be able to type Dece to get the little screen tip telling you to press Enter to insert December.

You won't be getting screen tips like that for other things, like 'To Whom It May Concern' in Word 2007.

You can create Autocorrect entries.

You can make use of building blocks.
