The operator extension is 3400. It has a cover button for ext 4001. All calls come into 3400. We set up AA1 and the associated submenus and assign 3400 to AA1. AA1 will not pick up. Not certain which group is AA. Looked at all groups. Group 770 does not exist. Group 4060 has all extensions assigned. I know I am missing a big basic piece, but cannot determine what it is. Do I need to make operator extension 4001 logical 1, and remove 3400 that is also logical 1? Do not really know how to accomplish overflow group. We have a day message and a night message. When the night service is active aa picks up immediately. This is what we want to happen in the day time. According to the AA1 768 is the operator ans ext. We changed it to 3400 and it had no effect.

Thanks for the help in advance.

Forgot to mention it is merlin messaging r 2.0.

Is the phone company sending 3400 as the DNIS for your incoming calls?

Do you want the Auto Attendant to answer Immediatly, or Delayed?

What do you dial to log into voice mail for checking messages?

A few senarios come to mind. If the phone company is sending 3400, and the Operator extension is also 3400, you delete mailbox 3400 and re-create it pointed to the Auto Attendant (when in the System Administrator's mailbox, creating mailboxes, option 3 is assign to an auto attendant). Then, when 3400 is not answered, instead of covering to a mailbox, it covers to the auto attendant.

For Immediate answering, again if the telephone comapny is sending 3400, you renumber the Operator to something other than 3400, and renumber the voice mail calling group (whatever you dial to log into voice mail) to 3400.

Need more information on your setup to give clearer directions.

Is ext 3400 in cover path 30 and if so does ext 3400 have a class of service of 15 which is for AA1 the calls coming in will follow the lowest logical ID being the console is the lowest

Not certain what telephone company is sending. I suspect they are sending 400, but I will check. I think 3400 is forwarded. I do want AA to answer immediately. They dial 4060 to get to voice mail.

Thanks

Put the call answer operator back to 768 in the voice mail. You said during the day that the main DID number "3400" rings into the operator ext 3400 AND when you press the night service button the auto attendant picks up immediately and plays the night service greeting. You also said 4060 is the calling group for voice mail. Just do this as a test. Renumber your console 3400 to something else...e.g. 7100. Then renumber 4060 to 3400 and make a test call. The DID number going to the call group for voice mail will play the main AA1 and should play it on the first ring. If it plays the DAY Greeting then press your night service button on 7100...give it a few seconds and place another test call and it should play the night greeting. You had mentioned you "thought" 3400 was forwarded?? Is this because someone else is covering for the operator? From your comments it sounds like 4001 is set up so the operator can get personal or other calls. lg
