System:
Norstar Plus Compact ICS
(2) NT7B75GA-93
Rel. 03 2000/03/27
Software Vers. 4.1

Currently only 4 phones on the system, and attempting to set up a fax machine.

System set up and running currently with 2 existing lines. Trying to get the fax machine working correctly. I want the fax to work on Line002, which is not used for just fax purposes.

Line001 is in HG1, with all existing phones (ext. 110, 111, 113, 116).
Line002 is in HG2 with just ext. 110, 113, and 120 (being the fax/ATA).

I believe I have the Auto Attendant running correctly, and CCR has the fax switch turned on @ ext 120. The ringer pickup setting is set to 3.

The fax does not pick up when an incoming call from another fax is in progress. The line rings to its 5th ring, then the CO VM takes over from there. Can anyone hit on a few "needs" to make this work. Thanks !

One last thing that I have not been able to figure out. I want RingerType01 for Line001, but I want i.e. RingerType02 for Line002. I can not seem to run across the option to change this feature so Line2 sounds different.

I have this system in my home, 1) for learning purposes / 2) business purposes. I basically do not want my kids picking up on lines that sound funny to them. All the help is appreciated !!

For your second question, to have the 2 lines ring differently, you'll need 6.1 software, or above. It's called Distinctive Ring.

What, exactly are you trying to accomplish with your fax? Is line2 your published fax number, or do your lines hunt? Which phone number are people sending faxes to? If it's line 2 only, just program that line to ring at the fax extension, and to no others. Set your fax for the lowest possible number of rings to answer.

Thanks for the reply Rick. The information on the Distinctive ring is what I was trying to remember.

As far as the fax, basically, to make it easier to understand, I am using ONE phone line for normal talk use, and for FAX. Want the ICS to distingish the incoming fax call and push it to ext. 120 (the fax machine). This way, when a fax comes in, it does not go to the CO VM service, it goes to the intended fax machine.

Lets say this number is 123-4567. People use this number for normal incoming calls for sales or something. They want a fax machine installed using this same number, but do not want to answer an incoming fax call, and have to push the "FAX" button on the machine. I know the ICS can pick up the incoming FAX TONE, and sling it over to the ATA. I just can not seem to figure out how to get it to work.

As far as I know that won't work. Norstar can't tell if it's a phone or a fax ringing in. You would need a dedicated line assigned to the fax local.

What u need is a line sharing device such as "The Stick." It has a line in port and a line out for fax, voice, and modem.

Fax switch
The Fax switch feature monitors incoming Auto Attendant lines and automatically transfers calls to a fax machine when it hears a fax tone. The Fax switch contains all of the required Fax tone detection and transfer abilities within the Norstar system.

This feature allows one Fax DN.

1. At System prgrming, press SHOW until Hunt groups displays.
2. Press NEXT until Fax DN:None displays.
3. Press CHANGE and enter the Fax DN.
4. Make the required changes for the Fax switch in the Auto-attendant
documentation. Auto-attendant programming is covered in the
documentation that came with the CallPilot system attached to your
CICS.
The Fax switch identifies one DN and does not support the unique
definition of a number of Fax devices. To support a collection of Fax
devices:
• use the Forward on Busy setting on a set
• use the Hunt group functionality to collect all fax devices under one
DN

You answered my question. Edmonton, thanks alot. I just realized, I HAVE to have the callpilot in order to have the attendant working. Can you all say *FART*.. cause my brain just did. Thanks !
