We have ARCServe2000 running on Windows 2000 server. We have set up 7 rotation backup tapes. Looks like ARCServe2000 only recognizes the blank tape. I got the following messages every time I try to use some used tapes. I have tried 'erase', 'formate' functions of ARCServe2000, and got same messages.

N5921 1 media moved from Save Set to Scratch Set om BACKUP03.
N5962 Media in device group GROUP0 is not in the scratech set of pool BACKUP03.
N5940 Please mount one of the following media in device group GROUP0:
N5942 1. TUESDAY [S/N:1400005, SEQ:1] BACKUP03
N5942 2. THURSDAY [S/N:1400000, SEQ:1] BACKUP03
N5942 3. FRIDAY [S/N:1400001, SEQ:1] BACKUP03
N5941 4. <BLANK>
N5929 Job will be candelled in 5 minutes.
......
Backup Operation Failed.

This is very annoying. It never happened before when we had ARCServeIT 6.1. How can I handle this? I couldn't find any help from the help section. I have tried support.ca.com and found no information about above error code. Where is the 'mount' function located? Often, we need to do a backup test with 1 or 2 directories. What kind of the tape should I use for the test? Is there anyway that I can reuse the test tape again? Should I do 'erase', 'format', or 'mount' first before reusing?

If you know a better way to deal with tapes, please share with me. Your help will be very much appreciated.

Mounting media just means : put the tape in the drive.
When using rotation schemes ARCserve will take over part of your media administration. tapes that are used in backup jobs will go to 'save sets' ( don't overwrite ) and will only move to 'scratch set' ( can be overwritten ) according to certain rules. Check your media pool manager for these rules and supply your backup device only with tapes that are in the scratch set ( or blank media because blank media are ALWAYS accepted for backup jobs ).
Please check the user guides on how to deal with rotation jobs.

Thanks cyklops. Your explaination does make sense.

Now, what should I do to make used tape re-usable? In other words, how can I make an used tape to be a 'blank' tape so that the it would be accepted again?

Thanks again.
