Hi,

Does anybody know if there is an enterprise solution for getting reports out of arcserve?
I've looked into the Job Reports on Arcserve but this solution is not very good.
We need to monitor some sixty different site servers and get a clear overview of the backup results (information like Failed, Successful, Incomplete or Canceled should be enough).

Thanks,
GSC

HI,

When you say job reports? are you referring to the Report writer tool?

If not.. you could try this tool.. has a whole lot of features.. and can be run from a command line as well..

So it Shall be Written!
So it Shall be Done!!

Hi,
I'm really not referring to anything because I'm not familiar with any report writing tool.
Now that you are mentioning it I have looked it up on the Internet and saw that this is something that can be found in Arcserve.
Is this tool an add on that we have to buy?
Do you know of a site where they explain how we can use it?

Thanks,
GSC

Hi,

What version of ARCserve do u use?

This tool is a built in feature of BAB v 11.0 and later.

Read the administrator's guide of BAB to get the details of how to use this tool..

So it Shall be Written!
So it Shall be Done!!

Hi,

I use the BAB v 11.0
I've seen what it can do now but the report is not what I really wanted. To much information. I just want a field for each server where it says "Failed, Incomplete or Canceled".

Thanks.

HI,

Why dont u just use the alert option on each Backup server, to send you an email with the status of the job ?? wouldnt this be easier?

So it Shall be Written!
So it Shall be Done!!

Hi,

I'm currently monitoring 100 servers and their backup jobs.
Every day I have to send out a report on the status of all backup jobs (believe it or not, but it goes to the local IT-Administrtors)
Currently I've got some kind of reporting going on, SNMP traps to a mysql database and the data is extracted by Nino.
It really looks like crap but it gets the job done. I would like to find a tool that will do these reports for me so I don't have to put in a lot of manual work to it.
Going through emails and putting together a report on this will take a very long time for 100 servers.....

Thanks,
GSC

Common sence is not so common anymore

Break it up into a different job for each local admin. Then setup Alert to e-mail that admin the job log.

GSC:

With that many servers, your task is no doubt taking up the greater portion of your day.
There's a reporting tool that can help you in this task: ArcLog Distiller. From what I read you need to do, sounds like this will fit the bill nicely.
There's a free timed eval available to download at
Hope it helps,
Wayne

Wayne,

Thanks for the info. I was in contact with them but:
"Licenses start at just $995 for our Single Server Edition. The base license is for 1 backup server, 1 manager and up to 10 backed up systems"
didn't make management happy. We're in the "cost saving" business now if you know what I'm saying ;)

Anyway I've got this sorted out now though.
The tool that I was using before was collecting all this data in a database and together with Crystal Reports the output is sweet as honey. Everybody loves my report now.
All I have to do now is to figure out how to make it automatic, right now I'm manually running the report in CR once a day.

GSC

Common sense is not so common anymore

I use a tool called Monarch. I have monitored backups from as many as 25 servers on a daily basis. A report pops up each morning that says backup server named and their completion status. I also get backup times, sizes, errors, etc... Monarch is from a company called Datawatch. I have it set to parse through the regular *.log files that Arcserve creates. Works for me... I use it now for V9. I would be willing to share the model if you persue this. Just let me know.

Good luck,
Debi
