Append Jobs fail for no reason

A strange problem is occurring. All of our jobs are GFS rotation with using one tape per day. The exceptions are two jobs which are GFS jobs which append to the previous tape.

The problem is with these two append jobs. Both will start the week correctly, using the first tape in the media pool rotatation. For the most part, the next days jobs will indeed append to the tape from day one.

But every now and again, the next days jobs will start at the scheduled time, load the correct tape from the first of the week, then simply fail. No errors. No information. Just fail.

You can watch the job calculate the session, and see the tape spacing to the end of the tape for appending. But then it just fails. The makeup job will submit and run, but it will use the next tape in the media pool rotation.

This is a sporadic issue, but each of these two jobs will fail once a week. Never the same day and only these two incremental append jobs.

Any ideas?

Tape log is the only thing that I can think of that will let us know why it is failing. Each day if it does not fail go in and delete the log. Thing is the log grows really big, that is unless you are using BrightStore Enterpise Backup which has write commands turned off by default in the debug log.
