Hi all,

I'm trying to install apache and tomcat on a winxp machine. So far I have installed apache fine. The problem arises with tomcat. I can install tomcat and start the service. When I try to connect to it ( the page opens but the service then stops and has to be restarted each time. I've tried disabling the winxp firewall (briefly) but it makes no difference. I've tried reinstalling tomcat to use a different port, but still no difference. Any ideas, I'm at a complete loss as to what to try next.

Thanks in advance.

update: if I start the service and just wait, tomcat shuts down for no reason after about 5 seconds or so.

Using Tomcat 5.0.28, Java j2sdk1.4.2_08, WinXp 2002 Profession SP2.

solution:

Tomcat5 won't run properly with java 1.4, I've put 1.5 on and all seems to be fine... so far ;)

erm, Tomcat 5.0.* works fine on SDK 1.4 - our live servers are running it !

believe it or not, yesterday tomcat would start and keep running (after I put java 1.5 on) this morning, it runs for about 5 seconds again before shutting down. Seems you're right sedj, the java version wasn't the problem.

Any ideas what could be causing this?

Looking at the stdout log I'm getting an error
StandardServer.await: create[8005]: java.net.BindException: Address already in use: JVM_Bind
java.net.BindException: Address already in use: JVM_Bind

How can I find out whats on this port?
