Hello all,

I'm very new to web servers so please bear with me. I'm trying to install Apache 2.0 on Windows 2000 Server (fresh install) that has a cable internet connection and has no other web services set up. Eventually I want to have Apache, PHP, and MySQL going so that I can have it running my own web site.

I receive a couple of error messages when trying to install Apache, both popping up in command prompt windows. The first one refers to some sort of socket error where it can't get to 0.0.0.0:80 (this only appears during installation) and the second message says "The system cannot find the file specified. :No installed service named 'Apache2'." This one appears both during installation and when I try to start Apache. I tried to get more info from the error log but that doesn't seem to exist. Does anyone have any ideas?

Try this

uninstall Apache from your server.
Go to
download the latest release.
It will install Apache,Mysql and PHP all in one installation.
Let me know if it works

That would not fix it, he would get the same errors when he installed that.

If you receive an error that Apache cannot bind to port 80 then you have something already running on this port. Common programs are IIS & Kazaa.

You either need to find out what is running on port 80 and disable it or bind Apache to another port. If you plan to run this as an Internet server then the first option is highly preferred.

Hope this helps Wullie

Hello,

Wullie may have the right idea. I'm pretty new to 2000 Server (or any server software) and think that IIS 5.0 may have been installed by default? I don't have Kazaa on the server computer so this seems to be the likely culprit. How would I disable IIS 5.0 if it's on there? Would I be able to just uninstall it?

Thanks,
