I have to add a keycode to the PBX to add Ran and Mus ports. It says you do it in LD 143. Does it work smoothly?

Also, we ordered an upgrade of 64 ports 3 months ago and never upgraded, and now we ordered 64 more ports, so we were issued a 2nd set of keycodes.

Should I go right to the latest keycode, or install both the old, then the new keycode?

what type of system? what rls ?
64 ports? Did you mean TN's,Digital sets,Anlg sets?

It's only dialtone-VZ

I have an 81c 3.0. The ports part is not important, I was mainly wondering about it the "Instant ISM" in LD 143. It says you don't have to re-load after the ISM upgrade, so I wondered if that goes smoothly, also Can I install the latest keycode alone or do I have to install the old one first, before I install the new one.

on 81c - you should have gotten a keycode disk

You should have also gotten a keycode sheet - check it with your current packages make sure you are not missing anything.

use your latest one. Put in active core
LD 143
.knew F0 (if PII always F0) if CP1 to 4 F0 for CPU 0 and F1 for CPU 1

since you are changing TNs system will require a reload to activate. Built your Music broadcast before reload.

On the 81, I have to disagree (honorably) with Reusser. I added 40 Digital set licenses (TN's) using the 143 "Instant ISM" to my 81C about 6 weeks ago without a hitch. Did it in the middle of the day without so much as a hiccup. I would recommend adding the first keycodes before the second, since they add on to each other, although it may not be needed.

I would have no problem doing it again, and we plan to do it as a keycode ship every time we do this.

Works great without issues.

Hope this helps,

Scott M.

TN upgrades no longer require a sysload. Just did one the other day and it took about 60 seconds to load. I would go through the Testing portion to make sure everything is ok when you are done.

I did one about 2 months ago and actually did the whole split mode yada yada deal and then realized that I didn't need to do.

If you requested TN's before and then got more. Load the original order first then the new one. That is what happened with this last upgrade I did. They put in an order for Succession upgrade then ran out of TN's. Couldn't generate more TN's since Configurator showed the system as a Succession switch. Nortel had to go in and fix Configurator and reissue the TN upgrade. They would not send on a disk, or send a certificate, since (they said) it was not a Succession switch. I don't believe this, but the file they emailed worked just fine.

If you are lucky enough to get a certificate with your keycode/ISM upgrade, look on the bottom it will tell you if you need to sysload.

Thanks for the great advice. I will load both new keycodes and I won't have to do a sysload.

Thanks again!

those post are right, takes all of ten minutes and it's done. very clean, i did one here during lunch, clean and quick

Well I found another wrinkle, The two keycodes I have are not adding any features, just ISM's, But my first certificate has the message saying I don't need to sysload, the second one does not have this message. I believe both upgrades fall into the guidelines of "instant ISM". What do you make of that?

Load the first one. then check the new one against what is in there. If you do a kdif rec f0 (if core 0 is the active core, or if you have CPII processors) then you will see the difference in the keycodes/ism's.

If it is only a TN expansion you won't need to sysload. Maybe they are saving on ink. If you needed to sysload, you would see that on the cert, or when you try to load.

John

have to agree most feature require at least an ini, lic only tn's only.. not required

I loaded the older ISM upgrade disk first, then did an EDD and then the second disk and did another EDD. Both ISM upgrades loaded "Instantly" and both upgrades said that a Sysload was not needed.

Thanks everyone for the help!

Guys, I have some keycodes for I2050 phone licenses that I have to enter to my PBX (Option 11), how do I do that?

Info from the book:
Meridian 1/Succession 1000M Large System
Upgrade Procedures Book 3 of 3
Document Number: 553-3021-258
Document Release: Standard 1.00
Date: October 2003

Leave the system in full redundant mode (hard-disk and CPU redundancy).

Procedure 58
Performing a feature and ISM parameter upgrade using a keycode diskette.
1) Log in on a system terminal and load LD 143.
>LD 143
CCBR000
.
2) Insert the new keycode diskette into the floppy drive on the active IODU/C card.
3) Print the pending keycode contents.
4) Enter the KDIF command and select keycode comparison options.
Note: Ensure that the new keycode does not lower ISM limits or reduce features compared with the existing keycode. If it has been determined that the keycode lowers ISM limits or reduces features, do not continue
with the KNEW command. Contact the Nortel Networks order
management representative.

. KDIF
Please use: KDIF <param1> <param2> with the following parameters:KSHO F1 (or F0) print the contents of the candidate keycode in the floppy drive on the active Core. Where:
F1 = Core 1
F0 = Core 0----F0 always for PII systems!!
NEW Accepted new keycode
REC Currently used keycode
OLD Previously used keycode
F0 Candidate keycode on diskette in /f0 floppy drive
F1 Candidate keycode on diskette in /f1 floppy drive
HD Candidate keycode which was uploaded to hard disk

Enter the keycode comparison option. The new keycode option is shown in bold.

Note: In the following example, the (REC) currently used keycode will be compared with the new keycode disk in floppy drive F0. The limits shown are for example purposes only.
.KDIF REC F0
Validating Keycode File /p/install/keycode.rec... OK
Validating Keycode File /f0/keycode.kcd... OK

5) Select the new keycode for activation using the KNEW command.
. KNEW F0
The uploaded keycode is validated against the security device.
If the following system message is displayed:
CCBR020 New Keycode accepted and activated successfully.
Sysload is not needed!
This means that the new keycode is eligible for instant activation and no further user action is required. Go to steps 6 and 7.
If the keycode is not eligible for instant activation, a Sysload is needed to activate the new keycode and the following system message is displayed:
CCBR009 New Keycode accepted. New ISM limits and feature
packages will be activated during the next Sysload (Cold Restart).
Go to step 8.

6) Load LD 22 and confirm that the new ISM parameters have been
updated.
>LD 22
REQ SLT
....
If ISM limits are correct, then the keycode installation is complete.
See “Reverting to the previous keycode with the KRVR command” on page 220 if ISM limits are not increased or problems exist.

7) Once it is confirmed that the keycode changes taken effect as expected, perform a data dump in LD 43.
8) Perform the following steps for keycodes that are not eligible for Instant *** see manual for parallel re-load instructions***

I used the larger system method, but this is what the book says about a small system (Opt11). Hope it helps!

Key 1, Key 2, and Key 3. Enter each string and press return. If the keycodes are entered properly, the system will display:
Keycode validation successful.
Are you sure you wish to perform the upgrade? (y/n/[a]bort) :

21) In response to the prompt “Are you sure you wish to perform the
upgrade?”, enter y.

If the new keycodes correct for instant activation, it will be activated without further user action, and the following message is given:
Upgrade was completed and activated successfully.
Sysload is NOT needed!

If the keycode is not eligible for instant activation, a Sysload is needed to activate the new keycode and the following message is given:
Upgrade was completed successfully.
Initiate a Sysload to activate the upgrade.
