AMD Duron Running Temp 2

My AMD Duron runs at about 40-45 degress centigrade...

I feel that is a bit hot...I am just seeing if it is just my CPU or if other people's Curons run sorta hot...

I plan on getting more case fans to cool it down hopefully...

any other ideas?

the temp is fine if the system is a standard one.

my 1 gig t-bird flys at 41-44c all the time

I prefer my CPU to run a bit cooler - around 33-35 degrees C.

My $0.02 is to recommend installing a fan at the front of the case, and a reverse-wired fan at the back. The steady airflow will knock degrees off your CPU temp, and the system should show greater stability. AMD chips love it cool B-)

PS, you can probably squeeze a tidy amount of extra Mhz out of your chip using this setup, if you're into overclocking.

well my thunderbird 1.1 ghz runs around 36-38 C, which FOP38 and artic silver, I think putting artic silver helps a lot, i notice like a 5 C drop in temp. You should maybe consider getting that too.

is where you can find more information on it...but remember you gotta clean out all the old goop that was on your cpu and heatsink and reapply it evently or else it doesn't work. Also you can think maybe get a better heatsink + fan combo. FOP38 is one of the best but it's very loud since it uses a DELTA fan. But i heard globalwin got a new fan that is really good too. ALso you should always make the fan on back of the computer near the cpu blow air out and fans in front of the computer to blow fan in. That way there is a good circlation.

I plan on adding the 2 fans, one in front and one in back, to blow air through the system and keep it cooler. Plus I may add some extra fanss to assist with the cooling process and make a good airflow through the whole computer.

i have a Duron 850 runnin at 950 ...the CPU temp is 33 degrees C at idle, and at full load, its about 37 .....im happy with that.....i originally had it at 50 degrees C before i doctored my cooling! ....i removed the sticky gunk that cam stuck to the underside if the heatsink...then smothered the CPU chip with that Artic cooling stuff....then i attached 2 fans onto the very large heatsink and....baby! its a lot cooler now! ....i also purchased a taller midi case, so the power supply was well outa the way of the CPU's airflow ......oh yeah!

Case fans only hide the problem - the first task is to get the heat from the chip.
As thread above remove the gunk on the heatsink that came as standard.
Use only enough paste to eliminate any imperfections between H/Snk and CPU die - this could be worth 5 - 7 degrees C on its own.

Well...I added 5 fans and have a great air flow...I am now buying the Arctic Silver II and I think that it will make things run perfect...if they do...then I may overclock the CPU just a tad

Did not understand comment above from htin11 that fan at front should blow in and fan at back(near CPU) should blow out. Would think reverse would be true, if you want to keep CPU cooler, as the cooler outside air would be delivered first to the CPU area.

...If you think about it, the air behind most PCs gets warm farily quickly - in most situations there is a large body of cooler air (ie the room the computer is in) in front of the PC. Simple logistics, really.

Arctic Silver is REALLY good stuff - I'd recommend it to anyone using AMD or INTEL CPUs ..

Some of you guys are just missing the point!! hot air rises!!!!! so trying to suck the hot air out with a front lower case fan would be kinda difficult!! SO!! definately IN at the bottem/front and OUT at the TOP REAR (unless you like warm air blowing in your face) in which case have it blowing out at the FRONT TOP!! lololol
Hey guys! be careful what you post unless you are absolutely sure! REVERSE wiring fans?? Doesn't work on most!! and why would you want to do it anyway?? JUST TURN THE FAN AROUND!! if you want to change the direction it is blowing!!
Also 40-45 degrees C is really fine!!!! for a Duron, More case fans may take off an extra 5C, but you really don't have anything to worry about.
