I am trying to automatically log onto a machine when ftp'ing. I have added the user details to the .netrc file on both machines and changed the password to match that in the .netrc file.

However, when ftp'ing I get the messages:

331 Password required for username
530 Login incorrect

Any ideas ?

Just to double-check, I'm reading the man page and it says to make sure the permissions are correct, and also that the .netrc file ownership is important. This is an example .netrc file listed in the man page:

machine host1.austin.century.com login fred password bluebonnet

ta for that. Both got me thinking and it's sorted.

ta,

madra.
