How can I tell how many disks will be accessed simulatneously by AIO? We are running AIX 5.1 and Oracle 9i.

One command that may help you is

pstat -a | grep aio

to find out how many aio procs started- or

ps aux to find number and usage-

Well, for AIX 4.3.3 and Oracle 8, I believe Oracle's recommendations for AIO servers were a minimum of 5 per hdisk and a maximum of 10 per hdisk.

That's hdisks that contain Oracle data, of course, and applies to hdisks, not pdisks in case you're using some sort of raid array (do a count of lsvg -p on your data volume group)
