In your opinion, what is the best way to advertise a site selling software?

I found some sites that will bring 10,000 visitors to your site for $1.95. Sites such as This sounds a little fishy to me.

But other sites have a pay per click which is as low as 50 cents per click, which seems really high priced...

I don't know what to do, as I am just starting out, and only have $100.

Any ideas?

Google adwords
download.com
cnet.com
tucows.com

and other sites like that are good places.

BTW: You should probably spend almost as much on the marketing of your product as you did to develop it.

Thanks for the reply.

When you say download, cnet, & tucows, are you just implying to submit to their free listing? Or actually pay to advertise on their site?

I've listed my application on their sites, but get only 10 downloads a day.

I've looked into Google adwords, but it confuses me to death. I can't find a place where it list's the cost per click.

I'm looking to eventually get about 100 downloads a day, while advertising about $100/month to start out.

Thanks
