Hi all. I wasn't sure whether or not to post this in the Routers or Switches sub-forum since they do with both. But here goes..

I've got a new project coming up, and I just wanted to bounce some ideas off of the community. In a nutshell, we are getting a new system for one of our departments and I want to place it on a separate VLAN. Our network consists of a Main location, and one satellite location. Both sites are connected with BGP.

I've already created a new VLAN on our switch at the Main Site. My plan now is to...

1. Advertise the new VLAN on the Main Router for BGP (which should automatically update the Satellite locations routing table)

2. Add the routing information for the new VLAN on my ASA firewall.

Am I missing anything here or will this accomplish what I need? Also please let me know if you need any more information, thanks.

Yes, that should be fine. Why are you using bgp as an igp though?

I don't really know, it's an inherited network. Are there pros to using IGP vs BGP?

Well, BGP is normally for exterior routing, and not interior such as RIP, EIGRP, OSPF, etc. With only 2 sites, I would actually go with static routes, or if a routing protocol is preferred, RIP ver2.

Hey guys, just wanted to say thanks for the help. The addition of the new VLAN went off without a problem.
