adding ide hard drive to raid array.

I am running raid with 2 raptors connected to a raid card. I am trying to add a third ide drive to hold my virtual memory. The problem is that when you restart the pc it attempts to read the ide drive prior to the raid array even though I have the bios set to scsi drive first. How do I use the ide while making sure that I don't boot from it?
