I am trying to allow end users to modify reports by issuing MODIFY REPORT... in a VFP 3.0 EXE. The report writer activates but does not activate the tool bar. Consequently the report cannot be modified beyond moving or deleting existing objects on the report. Is there a way to bring forward the report writing tools?

From the FoxPro Main Menu select tools > options > File locations.
Make sure all the app and fxp files listed are where the compiled EXE can find them.
David W. Grewe
Dave@internationalbid.net

Did you already solve the problem with the toolbar, we have the same problem.

My first suggestion did not work. After a couple of E-Mail exchanges the problem was the FOXUSER.DBF file.
The application was using a different copy of the file then the developer and the records for the report form generator were not in the applications copy.
The final fix was to copy the developers FOXUSER.DBF and FOXUSER.FPT files to the application directory and rename it to what the application was looking for.
This was not mentioned but I suggest it. Open the Application copy of the FOXUSER.DBF and delete duplicate entries and obvious entries that are not needed by the Application.
My favoriate trick with the FOXUSER file is to make a shell copy with the basic info I want on the network. When the Application starts I have it look for a renamed version on the users hard drive (if not there then I make one from the network shell copy). In the application I then set resource to the users hard drive copy of the file.
Another trick other programmers use is to make a copy if the FOXUSER file to the network and and then change the file attributes to read only. FoxPro wiil not add records to a resource file that is read only.
The reason for this is:
The FOXUSER file tracks the location of views, displays, screens, ect. When different people access Views, Windows, displays , ect it makes another record in the file for each user. The file can grow very large. When the FOXUSER resource file on on the local hard drive it does not care what other people on the network do. And if it is read only it does not grow.

David W. Grewe
Dave@internationalbid.net
