Our company has grown into 8 computers networking ACT 6 and when a workstaion places only the first numbers of an address in a lookup, it brings up 2 to 6 address's. When they scroll to work on a certain address, and another user starts a lookup, it kicks the 1st user abck to the 1st address.

Additionally, the lookups are taking longer as we add new customers. So, I have heard that the new ACT 8 or 9 is powered by SQL, so I would like to know if upgrading would help the kick backs & speed up network lookups??

also, would like to know if it helps to buy the workgroup version of ACT??

The networking issue is most likely because you actually have a network issue. I'd check that Opportunistice Record Locking is turned off i the server and all workstations.

ACT! 8/9 would not have this problem as it's a client/server applications and doesn't depend on network calls to access the database

There is no workgroup version of ACT! 6.0. The Workgroup version of ACT! 8/9 is for 10+ users.

We are using a computer as the server, so can you tell me where to turn off the Opportunistice Record Locking.

Also, if we purchased the 10 user workgroup version, will it network faster & bettter than our present ACT 6
Thanks

If you have ACT! 6 installed on the server, it's pretty easy - Start | Run | ACTDiag... Options

ACT! 9 might or might not be faster than ACT! 6... it depends on the hardware that you have implemented.
