We have an Access 2 database which has operated for the past 7 years on several win95/98 workgroup networks of 2 & 3 workstations and have recently got a lockout problem as descibed below

Application Folder(one main datbase) and Data( many databases) are stored on one computer. 2nd computer has Application Folder and mapped network drive to data.

2 months ago, all of a sudden exclusive access was given to first user on the network even in our administrator mode.

When we moved the data to the alternate computer and repaired(synchronised databases) it was fine.

Novell is not running on the main computer with the problem.

Have checked the shared access options.

Any sugeestions? Thanks

I'm not real clear on your setup but the first thing to check the default open mode in Access (shared or exclusive)... It's been a while since I used 2.0 but in 97 it is on the Advanced tab under Tools and Options.

Next check your network security and make sure everyone has permission to read and write to the folder the database is in. The .mdb files can have varying permissions but note that compacting and repairing database files causes a new file with the same name to be created and will inherit the permissions of the folder (unless Novell behaves differently than NT for inheritance).
