Why and when would I ever need to use a RecordSet?

I have seen it in sample programs but never seen and explanation.

Ron

There are a few reasons to use a recordset; transfer of data from a server in a distributed application, direct control of import data, complex logic for managing and updating data, managing transaction rollbacks, etc., etc.

One of my databases requires importing data from an Excel flatfile. Let's say the file has data in a single row that must be loaded to four different table in the database after verification of data values, translation or Excel data values to a code in the Access database, and being able to know exactly what type of data was loaded or rejected by logging it into a logfile. This complex set of rules would be difficult or impossible to handle by another method. ----------------------

Thanks for your response. I have a better understanding now. My db aps are not complicated enough yet so it will be a while before I require this technique.

Thanks again,

Ron
