Gentlemen, your kind help is required :)
I'm totally lost. I have NetBackup BS 4.5 running on Win2000 Professional, standalone tape drive - HP Ultrium 460
and several qusetions "to-die-for".
- while douing test installations of the server i made couple of very important backups. I need to have access to the files on the tapes, but I cannot figure out how to do that.
If it was BackupExec, I would:
1. Insert the tape drive I need into my tape drive
2. Inventory the tape drive
3. Cataloged the tape (remember - there's no information about this tape content in my current catalog).
4. Restored files I need from the tape.

What can I do with NetBackup?

Thanks a lot!

Has your tape expired? If not, just insert the tape when you want to restore the file. It will tell you what tape to use. If the tape has expired then you will need to go through the Media Import Process outlined in the NetBackup Administrators Guide.

Thanks a lot, I'll try... Even I think I have tried to import the media....

The thing I don't understand is:
I've been working on NB testing for 7 weeks or even more (let's say, from the middle of February). And I did my important backups then. At the very beginning I had to re-install the entire backup server several times (don't ask me why :). And I'm not sure whether those backups have been done on the final server configuration or not.

Anyhow, the strangest thing that scares me is that I dont see my first backups in my catalog. All the backups that I have logged in the catalog are done in April... Common! March backups have to be there at least!

I wrote all of that just to say the following :)
Currently I have backup tapes from A00000 through A00010.
My important tape is A00000 as well. When I try to import it NB gives me 176 error message.

And the last: Guys, please tell me, how can I get the list of all the files stored on a given tape???? Assuming I don't have it in the current catalog?
PLEASE?

Sincerely yours,
A Stupid Admin :)

When you redid everything, did you use the same tape numbers? It sounds like A00000 already exists and you cannot import a tape that was already there. BEst thing to do if it is a different tape, expire and delete the current and then import the A00000 tape.

Thank you, guys, I've imported the tape I needed.
The question now - how to access the files stored on it?
I'll elaborate a bit.

I have Netware files backuped up on the tape.
There's client software to backup/restore Novell files.
To make a restore job you should run that client and go to Restore option. After that it'll give you list/catalog of files available for restore.
In my case I see catalogs of the tapes which haven expired yet. And there's no entry for the tape I've just imported :-(.

How can I go further?
Thanks.
