504 DNS verification error

Has anyone gotten this. Novell's tech info says this occurs when you have the reject if sender id can't be verified however I don't have that feature on. So why would our mail server attempt a reverse lookup and refuse the sender? We also have senders mail that don't hit us period, it never makes it to the gwia nor does the sender receive an undeliverable message, ever happened to anyone else?

Also....

Besides the prevent message relaying option what's the best way to close an open relay?

Actually nevermind, found a switch in gwia.cfg /rejbs that was in there but still never checked in the nwadmin gwia.
Baffling for me but it seems fixed.
