Hi all
For the 4621 IP Phone i have to configure the 46xxsettingsfile.
My customer wants to use the “Baklightoff” feature. Where and how has the string to set in the 46xxsettingsfile? Are there any things to administer in the PBX?
We have a S8700 IP-Connect Rls. SW.03.0 00.0.340.3.
Can anybody out there help me?

Never used that one, but I believe you would add this to the 4621 section of the 46xxsettings.txt file:

BAKLIGHTOFF xxx

Where xxx is the number of idle minutes after which the backlight turns off (1-3 ASCII digits, from 0-999). Default is 120. Which makes me believe that is idle seconds not minutes. I would also assume setting it to 0 makes the light turn off immediately. You might have to experiment with it a little.

You shouldn't have to change anything on the PBX.

Hope that helps.

Have you found this documented anywhere, or are you just experimenting with values in the 46XXsettings.txt file? We have not found anything about how to set this on Avaya's support site. The only info we have found regarding the backlight on a 4621 is actually in the Highlights of Communication Manager book, and it mentions that the backlight can be administered by the user. I have found nothing to back this up, nor have I found a way to do this through experimentation. Please post if you get this to work.

Hi all
Thank you for the quick answer.
That’s what I’ve red on the LAN Administer Guide 2.2.1.
See the print screen below

Backlight Parameters - 4621SW, 4622SW, and 4625SW only

BAKLIGHTOFF 120 Optional Number of idle minutes after which the backlight turns off (1-3 ASCII digits, from 0-999).

I have never used BAKLIGHTOFF setting, we don't use any phones with backlights in production.

I have used the PROCPSWD setting. It puts a password on any admin functions that can be done from the telephone. I highly recommend checking it out, especially if you have users that are too curious for their own good.

The coding for PROCPSWD was just as simple as it looks. I added a line at the beginning of the 46xxsettings.txt file, since it's more of a global setting, that said:

SET PROCPSWD "1234567"

The only problem I see with it is you can't use the * key in the password which would make it a little more secure.

I did find all of that in the LAN Admin guide on Avaya's site. The number of settings you can modify has grown tremendously.

Hope that helps.

Thanks. I'm in the process of printing off that guide, and will test this backlight feature tomorrow. Looks like there are some other good features as well.

Here is an update. We have set the BAKLIGHTOFF feature in our 46xxsettings.txt file just as suggested in the LAN Administrator. To date, we have yet to see the Backlight on the phones change, and we were sure to set the limit low for testing. In our conversations with Avaya, we had one IP Phone "expert" swear that this could be changed on the phone, although he has been unable to tell us where or how. If anyone has had success in making this work, please post.

Thanks.

What version of firmware do you have on your 4621 sets? Maybe the BAKLIGHTOFF feature is only available in the latest release??

Just a guess.

We have 2.2.3 firmware on our phones, which is the most recent that I'm aware of.

We have 4625 & 4621 sets and backlight feature works fine. We just added in setting file following string: SET BAKLIGHTOFF 5 (5 minutes). Firmware on phones are 2.2.3.

Keep in mind that if you change the 46xxsettings.txt file, you must reboot the phone so it will re-read that file and the new settings...

Sorry to sound stupid but exactly where in the settings file should the "SET BAKLIGHTOFF" command be written? Is it under the Per Model Settings as the heading states Web Settings?

I dont think it matters where in the file it is.

Are you using tftp server or http server?

Use a tftp server for testing and make sure that the phone is pulling the settings file and that it is pulling it from the appropriate location.

The line should be under the specific settings for the 4620

In the future everything will work...

The answer i got from Avaya at 12.12.2005 : This backlight problem is a known issue on phone 4621: the backlight will be not turned off after the idle timer is expired. It will be fixed in future firmware release.

Hello,

Can anybody help me with the settings for a isdn-30 in Moscow?

Thanks

Thanks for the update ralphino. That is pretty much the same thing that Avaya has told us.

Thanks for the update as well... this has been driving me crazy with 50+ phones.

Will they replace the phones when the screens burn out?

Thanks,
CJH

I got the problem on a 4625 ip phone running in 2.5.
