My friend has a 43p and it is currently running Aix 4.1.5 (older then dirt) however when the sytem is up he can utilize full functionality of his CD-ROM and the Floppy. However when he tries to boot off of the CD-ROM it does not read the cd that he is trying to boot off of which is a IBM OEM Disk #1 of the 4.3.3 cd set.. He cannot get into SMS because he does not have a SMS disk. We followed a procedure from IBM to update the firmware level and also create SMS disk. it updated the firmware level successfully and still cannot boot off of the cd-rom or access the SMS off of the floppy. Neither changing the bootlist or interrupting the boot process worked....

Any soulutions to this problem? I cant seem to think of anything. Any suggestions welcome..

Thanks!

does it even try to boot off the cdrom? i.e. does the light blink like it's trying?

yes it definately trys to read the cd-rom, the light flashes and i can hear it spinning.. After about 30 - 45 seconds of flashing and spinning the system just reboots itself. I know the cd-rom is working because when the system is up I can read/browse cd's with no problem. I have also even tried attaching a external CD-ROM and that did not yeild a positive result.

From your description I guess we talk about model 7248 WITHOUT a 3-digit display? Could help, I you press the F4-button for graphical displays or 4 for ASCII Terminal to get into the standard bootlist. Press it after the first "BEEP".
