Hi all,

I am using 3COM Superstack 3 Switch 4900 in a SAN environment. I have connected all the ports with the appropriate Fiber cable (MTRJ-SC), but very often ports are going down one by one, and when you check the port status it shows "enabled ; link down).

If you remove the cable and connect to other port the LED will come online, so there is no problem in the cable. But the port always shows enabled, link down even if you connect the cable from the system.

Any solution, because this is HACMP setup and my HA is going for a task because of these port failures.

Thanks in advance

Hi,

Thanks for your reply,

Actually there is no configuration we have done in the switch and the setup is SAN. I have jsut connected the cables and was working so far. Not even IP config done on switch.

No Spanning Tree, no VLAN, no Aggregated Link setup. All default.

But if I make the Port char. to 1000FD from default Auto, the LED at the switch is glowing, but the LED at the NIC is not glowing and there is no communication.

Kindly help me in resolving this.

when you say the LED on the NIC isn't glowing, what kind of device are we talking about... a Server? Could this be a Dell PowerEdge Server? Running NetWare?

Please advise.

Hi,

Thanks for your query,

This is a BULL EPC810 (Clone of IBM M80)running on AIX 4.3.3 SAN solution. And the NIC cards are Gigabit ethernet card which are connected to the 3COM 4900 Switch.
