I have 2 3300(cxi + lx) controllers linked via ip trunks. I am using two cisco 800 series routers for the link and two hp 2626 layer 3 switches to do the routing. Site A(lx) seems to be sending broadcast storms to site B(cxi). The hp switch port(on site B) which my cisco router is plugged into is showing broadcast storm errors and crc alignment errors. The IP trunks fail every 2-3hrs.

My phones on both sites are generating maintenance logs throughout the day, as below :

Maintenance: Category(General); msgFormatId(0) An IP device, with DN 5877, registered at CDP L2 MAC address Not Supported, CDP L2 Port Not Supported, CDP L2 IP Address:

Any ideas ?

Hm, fix your network...
Looks for STP settings, L2 loops, interface speeds and parameters.

Could it be portfast that is causing this problem ?

Hi, did you have any luck determining what was causing the CDP L2 MAC error messages on your contorllers? I have the same issue after a broadcast storm or loop happened. Solved the network looping issue, but phones continued to generate the same errors. I have Nortel 5520 edge switches as a LAN and a Cisco 3750 performing my L3. Any update on this issue is highly welcomed!!

Thx

Sure portfast can cause problems if you have L2 loops in the network. Portfast mode should be enabled on access ports with a single device connected only. CDP will work properly with Cisco switches only. If you have phones connected to non-CDP enabled switch, then multiple phones will be reported from a single uplink port of 3750 which in its turn will be repoted as a conflict in the ICP.
