can anyone help me setup an analog extension to automatically call 911 when someone picks up the handset, this is on a mitel 200 icp,it is currently setup as a hotline to the attendant, this is for a hotel pool phone, thanks in advance

PUT EXT IN OWN COS. ENABLE ALL FORWARDING OPTIONS &MANUAL LINE. SET UP A SPEED DIAL IN FORM 31.EX INDEX NUMBER 888& DIALED DIGITS 9911. THEN FORWARD EXT ALWAYS TO THE SPEED DIAL INDEX

Thank you,I will do that tonight and let you know tomorrow-again,Thanks!

Just 2c. It is kind of a bad idea. What if someone will know off the handset from the phone? 911 dispatcher will send ALL emergency services to your address. Unless it is a phone in a glass cabinet or other form of physical protection.

it is in a case,I did let them know about this issue but they still want it ,Thank you for the input

It is not for the customer to decide how they use 911 services when the dialing is automatic. There are numerous districts that will fine a property for mis-use of 911 services. This scenario would definitely apply. I suggest you advise 911 services of the customers request and get their input. I also suggest you get a written request absolving you of all responsibility.

it is the inspector that is making them do this apparently it is a new code in this area, they have been fine for the past 3 years now they just failed inspection due to the phone calling the front desk when the handset is lifted instead of calling 911,Thanks for the advice

OK, There are Hotel Inspectors and then there are Fire Inspectors. Hotel inspectors are representitives of the chain and have no authority in matters such as 911. Fire inspectors have all of the authority. Make sure you know which one we are talking about.

I have enabled all forwarding options and manual hotline,I set up entry #4 for 9911,I had customer setup forward always for that extension to entry # 4,from the console--it is still ringing the console, not 911 ,can anyone tell me what I am missing?? Thanks!

I am still trying to hotline a pool phone to 911...I have enabled all forwarding options and manual hotline,I set up entry #4 for 9911,I had customer setup forward always for that extension to entry # 4,from the console--it is still ringing the console, not 911 ,can anyone tell me what I am missing?? Thanks!

put the ext in its on tennant group that has no values.

I did put it in it's own ten group and it is still ringing the console

did you allow abb. dial access in the ext cos & external forWARD in the trunk cos & external forwarding in for 4 & abb.dial access in trunk cos and also otion 313 thru 319 ext cos.also set all dialows to allow in form 30

You must input the speed call number as the zero answer point in the tenant of the pool extension. Manual call dials zero. So if you setup your pool ext as a manual ringdown it is using its tenants zero point. Just create its own tenant and place the speed call in the zero answer point. Ive done this a hundred times.

I will try that over the weekend and let you know on Monday,Thanks!!!!

Sorry,it took so long to get back,I am having trouble setting up that entry # as an answer point, for tenant 5,I try to change the dial 0 answer to 4 or 004 and it tells me that they are not valid answer points,I did try to set up a phantom extension that is fwd always to abb dial entry # 4,and set up that extension as tenant 5's answer point and it is still ringing the console!!!! any more ideas---all of the help so far is greatly appreciated

I got it,I was not hitting the speedcall key first,Thanks for everyone's help!!!

We have been getting this request from customers all over our area.
The 911 operators (I do their phone systems too), had no idea that this "change" was coming around. They've even looked up the laws surrounding this and haven't found conclusively why this was being forced.

It's created a larger burden on the 911 and emergency services, because if they get a hang up call from a hotel, they don't call back... they send a uniform to the site - assuming they are being robbed.

The City of Savannah, GA, about 8 or 9 years ago has made it so if your business or home calls 911, and they have to send a uniformed officer to you when there is no emergency, they will give you three warnings. If they have to come out a 4th time, they will charge you... when they put it into effect, they would bill you for $75 for each offense... now I think it's $150 for each offense, including the original 3 strikes. So on the 4th visit, you will now get a bill for $600.

A legitimate emergency isn't billed like this though.

The idea wasn't so they could make money off of it, but it was to reduce the number of un-necessary 911 calls.

I'm still fighting to get it turned around... some of our customers have already complained of having their pool phone bumped and 911 called.

The inspectors have said "the phone must be ABLE to call 911". But when we set them to give dial tone to allow the user to dial 911, we were told that it wasn't good enough. I'm trying to get the legal guidelines in writing as to what is required.

we've always had them ring down to the front desk.

The South Carolina laws may have changed since I did a pool phone there, but it used to be that if the Swimming pool was in line-of-site with the front desk, then a phone was not required... most hotel chains and most private hotels, still opted to have a ring-down phone for that added measure.

could you let me know what you find,This is also in GA,and it was ringing the console for a few years, now the hotel inspector is making them do it or they can't open the pool,Thanks for the info

flponman: As I suggested earlier, why don't you call your local police department and get their opinion? This will definitely become YOUR problem if you don't do your homework (As I also suggested earlier)
