Sounds to me like its looking for the merchantlink config. Do you know if they're signed up with Merchantlink? Direct processing always scared me, so I've stayed away from it.

Have you checked the terminals to make sure that there isn't a backup there? I'm 99% sure Aloha copies the history to a backup terminal... I would look on the hard drive on each and see if you can find some history.
