uninstalling and reinstalling veritas did the trick.

tried that, but unfortunately it didnt work. I was able to backup exchange and some folders using the windows backup utility, but veritas still doesnt see the tape drive. So I will be uninstalling and then reinstalling veritas, see if that takes care of it.
