Mystery of the missing AD User Account

If they are being toombstoned, it means there is an explicit delete command being executed. I don't know how - but there has to be a way of creating debugging logs for NTFRS?

    Deploying IE7?

There is no native MSI - you can see this by extracting the EXE. It has an update.exe - that is all. You can make your own MSI - I can't think of any reason why it won't work with IE7. The IEAK is the supported method of deploying IE - always has been.

    2 Servers with same IP

On the client... ipconfig /flushcache On the DNS Server Delete the A record for the server (in dnsmgmt.msc) net stop dnscache /y net start dnscache net stop dns /y net start dns net start netlogon This removes all cached entries from client and the server, and should remedy and DNS server...

    PXE Customization

How did you go with this? I have been looking for some time at this - using the RIS TFTP server for the PXE clients to boot off... But I never quite get the time. BartePE used to be able to be run through PXE - although I believe this has been removed now. VMWare aparrently have some XP...

    Merge partitions

If sysvol is not on c - you need to make it on c:. Sysvol is not a standard share. Apart from being important, it has symbolic links attached to it. Once the sysvol is on c: - you can expand the partition using partition magic etc. There are many things you can delete from the c:\ before...

Print jobs that go nowhere?? Printer queue clears but nothing ever....

Have the physical printers changed (to a host-based driver). Do these printers exist on the client machine, or on a server at the client machine's site? (i.e. local printer, local port printer, IP printer, network printer)?

consoidating from a multi domain to 2003 single domain

The only REAL technical reason to have multiple domains is security policies that are domain-wide (secure passwords etc). The only real reason to consolodate existing domains today is to save money (reduced server costs (as in example of multiple exchange servers), and reduced administration...

RIS clients hang on "Please wait..."

How many PCs are you trying to RIS at the same time?

    Internet Being Slowed

Are you running ISA on that server (SBS)? If so, the proxy settings will be different - try without proxy (ISA by default handles transparent proxy)

using dialup to connect back to the Domain from off-site

Is sounds like the DHCP setting for DNS given to the dialup client is incorrect. Try NSLOOKUP from the laptop to the DNS server given through DHCP, and I bet there is no response. Users are dumb - doesn't mean we need to match them.

    USB Drives

No - I have always done it in the oposing direction - reassign network drives to different letters. I don't know Novell - is this possible?

Security Privileges not applied till next logon

There is no way to avoid this. When the user logs on using kerberos (NTLM hs similar features), the group membership SIDs are stored in the optional component of the kerberos authentication packet. The expiration for this data is not instant (going completely from memory, it has 7 days...

    Deploying IE7?

I was planning on using the IEAK - that way it can be pushed to terminal servers nicely also.

Mystery of the missing AD User Account

NFI! Are the accounts just gone - or are they toombstoned? I think with some research, you can see the toombstoned accounts with ADSIEdit

    Load Balancing NICs

Are you talking about combining 2 nics - just to increase bandwidth, or actual NLB? If you want to combine NICs, Windows 2003 comes with the Intel ProSet, which from memory allows this to occur with the right Intel NICs.

Can not authenticate workstation to server

DNS doesn't broadcast - it is directed/requested (i.e. it has to have a UDP socket connection to port 53) - there is no broadcast. If you have two NICs, by default, DNS will listen on both. Usually it is a good idea to have both server NICs point to the internal IP of the server for DNS...

    ISA Server 2004 memory usage

To use the /3GB switch, the application needs to be /3GB aware. I don't know that ISA is. 3GB doesn't increase memory usage - it just changes it. (i.e. standard use is 2GB user mode memory per process, 2GB kernel memory (shared between all applications). /3GB just gives 3GB to user mode, and...

Message windows appear on terminal server instead of RDP client.

I disagree. All software doesn't need to be TS aware unless it uses particular APIs that make it a requirement (e.g. BltBlk API takes screenshots of the console if asked - and is session unaware unless programatically asked). Some dodgy printers, usually aimed at home use, will come up with...

Can not authenticate workstation to server

Assuming you aren't familiar with NSLookup, I won't get you to check if the record really exists. On the server in a command prompt, type in net stop netlogon /y net start netlogon net start dns Wait 15 minutes. Netlogon re-creates thses DNS entried every time it starts. After 15 minutes...

Anyway to email Windows Backup job status?

You can also install the software here < www.dacomputers.com.au/software > It will send the logs to you, and is free! It is unsupported - but it works OK
