Tapes loaded!
I thought I could load 'em up one at a time through the CAP. Guess not. Put 'em in like you said and they're seen. Nice!
I even stuck a cleaning tape in there 'cause those drives are definitely gonna need a good scrubbin'! They've only been dormant for, I dunno, 3 years...
Hi again,
OK, here is a catastrophically dumb question... How do I load tapes into this beast?
I have 20 LTO2 tapes available, all never used. All have been labeled. For kicks, I loaded one into the CAP. It's just sitting in there doing nothing and the LCD panels reads the CAP as "busy"...
Well, to be fair, the $1,380 is for an entire year of phone support and on-site support (2 hour response time) if ANYTHING in this L20 craps out. It dies, it gets fixed... Even the two drives are covered, and those are IBM tape drives.
Therefore I could justify the cost.
I'm not pissed about...
SUCCESS!
After God know how many weeks, I got the tape library and tape drives to at least show up in Windows! Gone is the "Unknown Medium Changer" and tape drives themselves not even being there...
I now have a StorageTek L20 and two IBM LTO drives. The L20 is using the SUN(Oracle)-provided...
Hi again STKman,
Well, it's funny you should mention hooking it all up to a Server 2003 32-bit box. Actually, that was the first thing I did about a month ago. And yes, the drives DID show up... But I moved the setup to this new Server 2008 R2 server because I have to backup Exchange 2010...
Hi guys,
I just noticed something else as well. Boatloads of errors in the System Log in Windows. Happens every time I reboot the server. Have a look. I'll be damned if I know what it all means or how to fix it. But it all certainly seems to indicate a problem related to all this...
Sorry...
Hi TechyG,
Thanks for the reply, but that's not it. Symantec themselves expressly told me that to properly run BE 2010 and backup all the server I specified, I needed Server 2008 R2...
And the app works fine.
Thanks, though!
Chris
Hi again STKman,
You got it right. NO tape drives in the Device Manager, and only the "Unknown Medium Changer" under a "Medium Changer Devices" category.
I have now installed BE 2010 not and even that (trying to use Symantec drivers) gets 'em loaded... In BE 2010, it DOES show me the two...
Something I just found...
http://in.sun.com/download/index.jsp?cat=Hardware%20Drivers&tab=3&subcat=Storage
The 20th item listed says:
StorageTek Library Driver for Microsoft Windows 2.1.0.1
That certainly seems like what I want. And sure enough, even using my old Sun login, I can't get to...
Hi STKman,
Well, it's interesting that you mention the Symantec driver. I have gone through the Backup Exec Installer (falling short of clicking "Finish") and there is a screen where I can select to use Symantec drivers.
What gets me, though, is still that the drives don't even show up in...
Hi all,
I am the IT Manager (department of one) of a small school in Massachusetts. Need some help. My former employer was kind enough to donate to me a StorageTek L20 Tape Library. In it are two IBM LTO2 tape drives.
I know the library itself is in fine working order and I assume the...
Hi there,
Thanks for the reply. Actually, two days ago I finally got it all worked out with the ServerGuide 7.4.16 Support CD, I was able to do everything I needed to.
I find it odd that you cannot do in regular HostRAID what you can with the support CD.
I was able to build a RAID 1 and...
Hi all,
I have an IBM x226 with the built-in AIC-7902 SCSI RAID controller. My current drive setup is this:
~ (4) 36.4GB drives in RAID 10
~ (2) additional 36.4 drives that are not in a RAID configuration.
~ All (6) drives are on the hot-swap backplane, channel B.
I wanted to replace the two...
One final thing if you please. Regarding my post immediately above, I actually tried to kill all current configurations and try to build what I describe above. Like I said, I'm in testing right now and don't care if everything gets wiped. But I can't even seem to delete anything or alter my...
Ah, OK.
Would the controller allow me to eliminate two of the drives in the RAID 10 array and make the remaining two a RAID 1 only, then also allow me to take two 300GB drives and place them in a separate RAID 0?
Would it let me do that?
Thanks!
OK, I'm in the utility now. All six dives in the server now are on AIC-7902 B.
Not AIC-7902 A. There are no drives found on "A". When I go into "Configure/View HostRAID setting" on "B", I see my Stripe/Mirror Array called Atlas. It is at 73GB and "optimal". It's 72GB because it's four 36.4...
It's built-in, I think it's an Adaptec AIC-7902. I built the array by going into the SCSISelect Utility screen (hitting CTRL+A on boot). But it won't allow me to create a second array!
I will search around, thanks! One thing, though, while I'm looking... Why do I need this CD now even though I did not need it to create the original array? Seems odd.
Thanks!
Chris
Thank you for the post. Single channel backplane, got it. You say I would just have to create another raid array on the same channel. I can't seem to do that, however... Could you tell me how, assuming it's possible, please? Thanks!
Oh, and... I've read in my documentation that I can add...
Hello.
I have an IBM xSeries 226 server with the U320 controller. From the research I've gathered, it seems as though the controller IS dual channel (AIC-7902). I have (4) IBM 36.4GB HDD's in a RAID10 configuration. This is for my OS installation.
What I would like to do is add (2) more...
