Hello,
The Pix is really old. From all the research I've done, the Pix does not support "hairpinning". You need the newer ASA 5505 to get that feature (~$250 on eBay). I bought my Pix 501 for $20 on eBay so I'm not complaining.
I've had several people recommend using my Linksys WRT54G...
Hello Lemon13,
The Cisco 678 is only operating at OSI layer 2 so I don't see how it could be an MTU issue on that device specifically. My routing device is a Pix 501 firewall (PPPoE on the outside).
My Pix shows an MTU size of 1480. I didn't hard code this so it must have been negotiated. I...
Hello,
I’ve been having trouble uploading data to the Internet from home over my Qwest ADSL connection. When trying to upload pictures to Picasa or Shutterfly, or various files via E-Mail, I receive timeout errors. Only after numerous upload attempts am I ever able to upload my data. Using...
Hello Intelwizard,
So, if it's not supported over remote VPN do you know if it would work in a site-to-site configuration? I purchased a second Pix 501 about a month ago. Unfortunately, I only have the one internet connection at home so I havn't tested the site-to-site config. Adding my...
Hello Intelwizard,
When I configure split-tunnel, I can surf the Internet locally and still access my home LAN. That's not what I'm trying to do though. When I travel overseas, some Internet content is blocked because of where I'm located (for reasons similar to the DVD zone concept). If I...
Hello Noway2,
The Pix doesn't create a virtual interface, that I know of, for the VPN connection. When the VPN connection is up and I do a show int, only the inside and outside interfaces are displayed. Do you know of another command I should use to show the VPN interface (if it exists)...
Hello,

Looking over my config, I don't actually have AAA enabled. However, I am still using the local user database which is good enough for my home lab.

Hello BurtsBees,
I have AAA enabled and I've configured my vty ports to use the local user database (versus a TACACS or Radius server).
If I hadn't configured AAA or a password, which would be clear text, (or at the very best encrypted with the weak Vigenère cipher) the router would reply with...
Hello BurtsBees,

Hello,
I've been putting together a home lab this week and I'm having some trouble with my 2509. I've configured it (configuration below) using the advice offered on several sites on the web. My problem is that I can't consistently access the various line/console connections. When I try to...
Hello,
I'm studying for the CCNA Security cert (I need to renew my CCNA) and I'd like to configure some kind of VPN tunnel between any of the following in my home lab:
one 2620xm c2600-advsecurityk9-mz.124-23.bin
two 2501 c2500-is-l.123-26.bin
two 1601 c1600-y-l.123-26.bin
The 2620...
