i had a similar problem with laptop and desktop connected via crossover cable. i pinged self and others. then i ran network connection wizard on both machines, and it worked fine. if you have more than one nic enabled on the laptop, you may have to disable all except the one connected to...

i have heard of browser hijacker. but is there such a thing as a chat client hijacker too? my browser is not working. and i can't get mirc to connect to any irc network.

you need to connect it to a machine that doesn't give a hoot about xp stuff. is it formatted fat32 or ntfs? you can boot up your machine with a win 98 boot disk, and browse the files on that hdd, and possibly copy them somewhere.

:-) thanks linney, well, i got home a little late last night. and i tried some of the stuff you all suggested. the config.exe that i got, worked one time, then it did not the second time. ie explorer will not go to any sites. firefox will not go into any sites. mirc is not working. and will not...
