Cloning configured PowerHA node with mksysb for standalone system.

I would prefer to handle this at the source to prevent accidents. We have several team members and if we could devise a way to do this that's relatively foolproof, that'd be a good thing.

Cloning configured PowerHA node with mksysb for standalone system.

AIX 7.1 is cluster aware, and it appears that the node configuration, including IP address is in the ODM, probably somewhere under /etc/obj/ es. If I exclude the ODM configuration, it might make things more complicated. Another thought I had was to encrypt the cluster communication and then...

Cloning configured PowerHA node with mksysb for standalone system.

Well yes, I could. I was hoping to stop this at the source to prevent accidents.

Cloning configured PowerHA node with mksysb for standalone system.

I put this question to AIX support and received a "that's not supported" answer. Anyone got a workaround for this issue? Seems pretty basic. Product or Service: POWERHA SYSTEMMIRROR V7.1 Technology Level1 7.1.1 ...

    Slow NFS transfer

Two things stand out to me: 1) Is your etherchannel working correctly? Try pulling one of the NICs out of the etherchannel and run with one NIC. See if that helps. Some switches behave badly with etherchannel, and I haven't had much luck getting etherchannel to work across switches. This is...

    AIX 5.2L media

Fixor'd. I found a copy of LCD4-1133-02, the 05/2003 pressing in the back of a cabinet. Funny quirk with this pressing: Each CD has a label of LCD4_1133_02_VOLUME1. But, it's complete. Now I have a clean full install of AIX 5.2. DukeSSD, you make a good point. The whole reason the client...

    AIX 5.2L media

Thinking logically isn't helping the situation. 1) The client is a large government organization. 2) The client is vendor-locked into AIX 5.2 because that is the end-of-the-road in the application's support matrix. IBM has recognized that enough of its clients are in the exact position that...

    AIX 5.2L media

I have two sets of install CD's for AIX 5.2, both of which are missing a single CD. This is very frustrating. I'm wanting to migrate our AIX 5.2L installations to WPARs under AIX 7.1, and I'd like to do a clean 5.2 install. The sets I have are the 11/2004 pressing, LCD4_1133_06, and the...

    Can't reduce size of filesystem

IBM have confirmed that this feature was not backported. Don't know why I thought that. Thanks for your help! Foo

backing up a LOT of little files

Hi trifo, You've mentioned considering backup by inode but said you didn't know how to get savevg to do this. I didn't see it mentioned that the backup command does this. You don't get to pick and choose which files you back up - you need to do the entire filesystem. This command appears to...

    Can't reduce size of filesystem

Thanks, p5wizard. You're implying that I should be able to do this with my version of AIX. Here's what I got. root# lsvg foovg VOLUME GROUP: foovg VG IDENTIFIER: 00016b4e00004c0000000121d01a9795 VG STATE: active PP SIZE: 16 megabyte(s) VG...

    Can't reduce size of filesystem

This is such a newbie question. I can't reduce the size of a filesystem. I know that this was a feature added in AIX 5.3, but I thought I'd heard that this feature was added in 5.2 at TL 10. It's not working for me. I'm finding APARs for this not working for concurrent volume groups in 5.2...

Is AIX etherchannel compatible with Nortel MLT

I mean that only one adapter is active at a time. AIX etherchannel can do this. I didn't know that about cascading. Thanks for the tip.

    SSH MaxAuthTries

I'm getting slightly different results that what you posted. I set MaxAuthTries 1 on my system and it worked properly. But the message I got was [foobar@tundra ~]$ ssh pei foobar@pei's password: Received disconnect from 10.1.1.12: 2: Too many authentication failures for foobar What...

Is AIX etherchannel compatible with Nortel MLT

You said switches (plural). You can't trunk across the switches. The best you can do is use the adapters in failover mode. I tried this on our p690s using a pair or Cisco 4507's and got pretty much the same results you did. I found entstat to be helpful in diagnosing the problems.

    tcpip and ports

With lsof you can see what port is listening by process. lsof is in the Linux toolbox. For example, to see what's runing on port 1521, do this (mind the line wrap): # lsof -i :1521 COMMAND PID USER FD TYPE DEVICE SIZE/OFF NODE NAME oracle 790754 orap 14u IPv4...

    AIX disk I/O bandwidth

Have a look at iozone http://iozone.org/. It can be used to test the io of disk infrastructure and has a very impressive list of tests and options. It's easy to graph the results using a spreadsheet like Openoffice or Excel and the web site shows some nice examples. I've used it extensively.

    'at' authorisation

The manpage for at on my AIX 5200-09-03 system says: A user cannot use the at command if one of the following is true: o The at.allow file and the at.deny file do not exist (allows root user only). o The at.allow file exists but the user's login name is not listed in it. o The at.deny...

    0506-349 "Cannot unmount"

OK, I've got a fix that's specific to AIX 5200-09-03. The problem lies in the fact that the kernel maps memory to manage open files. Sometimes the process will die, but the kernel will hold the frames in memory as in-use. According to APAR IY90815, this can happen when mulitiple libraries are...
