    Best Linux distro for ESXi5.0?

I also would suggest CentOS as the go-to distro. The answer is always "PEBKAC!

    Host Problem

If you have a host issue, why would you rebuild vCenter? Was there a problem with it? Some of your VM information is saved in the vCenter database, as well as your data trends, as long as you have that saved you should recover without any issues. Good luck! The answer is always "PEBKAC!

Best Free or Cheap Remote Access Application / Tool for Windows 8 and 10?

I use Team Viewer for all my PCs since I travel a lot but if I need to help someone that is in front of their PC, I use join.me which is free as well. The answer is always "PEBKAC!

    VMware Question?

I am going to sort of disagree with my two counterparts slightly. What they say is all true but you also have to look at your environment as a whole. I have a 100% virtual environment with two DCs that are virtual. But I also have a highly redundant and mostly bulletproof infrastructure. Sure...

    VMware/ESXi 6- VM Slow

VMXNet2 is only supported by a few operating systems, 2008 R2 is not one of them. Essentially the difference between E1000 and VMXNet3 is that the E1000 is gigabit and the VMXNet3 can do 10 gig networks. There is a VMWare KB on them. So one of my questions would be on the VM itself. Was this VM...

Windows 8.1 Wont See DVD ROM Drive

Me either, my guess is something else was going on with Windows. Either way doing a refresh fixed everything. The answer is always "PEBKAC!

Windows 8.1 Wont See DVD ROM Drive

So I tried the RegEdit change in the article Phil (vacunita) suggested and it wound up hosing Windows. I did a repair re-install (a refresh) and that fixed the RegEdit errors and also fixed the DVD Rom not showing up. So in the end all is good. Thanks for the help! The answer is always "PEBKAC!

Windows 8.1 Wont See DVD ROM Drive

So normally I am pretty good at fixing anything on a PC but I'l be damned if I can figure this one out. My parents have an HP Elite desktop (which I also have and mine works great) loaded with Windows 8.1 that cannot see the DVD burner. The BIOS sees it just fine and can even boot to it using...

    Can't repair windows install?

Check to see whether you have 32 bit or 64 bit Windows installed and are trying to repair using the opposite. So if you have 32 bit installed and are trying to repair with a 64 bit disk or vice versa. This won't work and it will require a wipe of the hard drive and might throw the error you're...

Win 8 Laptop Computer Connects to Wi-Fi but Not to the Internet

Check your Hosts file in C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc Copy the file to your desktop, open it with Notepad. You should have a bunch of stuff at the top preceded with # signs, essentially it will look like this: # Copyright (c) 1993-2009 Microsoft Corp. # # This is a sample HOSTS file used by...

    ForeFront

We use Forefront with about 200 users. It is ok, it has caught more than a few trojans and malware. We use it with SCCM 2012 R2. It is lightweight and easy to keep updates. If you have an SA agreement you probably got it for cheap. Microsoft isn't perfect but we've had absolutely no problems...

    Preinstalled on User Installed

Downloading the update to 8.1 is free and is pretty simple. If it is a new laptop just make sure you have your disks handy or the original install partition is untouched and you should be good to go. Took about 15 minutes to upgrade mine from 8.0 to 8.1. You will have a much better user...

Bing Maps, Action Items and Unsubscribe show 404 errors

Update in case anyone else runs into the issue: SP1 did not fix the issue. But I found another article and a fix that worked for me. Navigate to your frontend\httpproxy\owa\web.config file on your Exchange server. Add the line <add key="aspnet:UseLegacyRequestUrlGeneration" value="true" /> under...

vCenter 5.0 to 5.5 new server install

I did the upgrade on my environment to 5.5 but I am running distributed switches and have a bunch of DRS rules, otherwise I would have done pretty much as you described. It sounds like the OP is fairly new in the virtual world and the vCenter 5.0 is already borked so installing a brand new...

vCenter 5.0 to 5.5 new server install

So there might be some challenges with one host in your environment running 5.5, not that it won't work but you might be a bit frustrated is all. Are you planning on upgrading the rest of your hosts to ESXi 5.5? See, the latest version of ESXi only allows its new features to be accessed via the...

Demoted Domain Controller and now Exchange 2013 keeps getting topology errors!

Have you tried to rerun the Forrest Prep, Domain Prep, and Schema Prep? Did you update your domain controllers after your Exchange upgrade? What level are you running your domain, 2008 R2 or 2012? Cheers Rob The answer is always "PEBKAC!

Bing Maps, Action Items and Unsubscribe show 404 errors

So we determined in a lab, with another companies help that the issue is with Exchange 2013 and Server 2012 R2 not being compatible. With Exchange 2013 and Server 2012, apps work perfect. In 2012 R2 apps fail. We have to wait until SP1 for the fix. Sometime Q1 2014. The answer is always "PEBKAC!

    Cannot consolidate virtual machine

I occasionally get this when my Commvault backups fail (for whatever reason) when snapping my VMs. I worked with support to determine whether the snapshots were actually being used or not. In my case they were not and we were able to use the command line to remove the snapshots. You can wait for...

Virtual Machine downgrade version after conversion

Agreed with cabraun, better get used to the web client, 5.5 is the last of a breed. There are a few things I am not happy about the web client, for one it is sloooowwwww logging and moving around Update Manager is a bit wonky getting it to work but we've been able to do everything through the...

    Configuration reporting

Anything free isn't going to give you much, however http://www.vmturbo.com has a nice product. They have a free version which we use for basic info. Why kind of reporting are you looking for? Cheers Rob The answer is always "PEBKAC!
