    What type of wireless are you using? I have seen this problem before when using some older "fat" aps (not using a centalized controller) and using WPA encryption for connectivity. The only way I could stay connected was having to drop down to using older WEP technology.

    Hello Mucca, On top of Biv343's suggestion, another check you can make is to confirm both devices, switch and phone, are configured for auto negotiate. If one device is not, you will end up in a half duplex scenario (duplex mismatch). This can cause problems.

    By default all ports on the Nortel switch are members of vlan 1. The device in vlan 20 you are attempting to ping on the Nortel switch, make sure that port's pvid is set to 20. When the device replies, the switch will use this pvid as the vlan tag, in other words, vlan 20.
