This might be a simple procedure but I can't work it out.
I run an Exchange Server 2003 for abc.com domain (for example). I have loads of users that are fine at sending and recieving emails as name@abc.com.
However the situation has arisen whereby I have a couple of users currently using the...
Ok - in my case I sorted this out.
I checked GPOs - nothing to do with them.
Check drivers for the NiCs, nothing to do with them
Check permissions for printers, nothing to do with them
I then realised in Vista the Network Sharing applet was showing my LAN connection as Unauthenticated...
The strange this is some clients display the names properly - some don't. I can't see any correlation between PCs that can see the correct name and those that can't.
Also - I've realised that the clients with Printer names displayed as I would expect CAN see the printer queue and who is...
Hi everyone,
This is not a major issue - but it is bugging me somewhat.
We run a Windows 2003 domain with around 150 Vista SP2 clients. All printers are added manually (ie not through GPOs). On some clients - the printers show up as the printer name which is what we want since we make sure...
Ahhhhh Ben - good point.
I turned Point and Print on a while ago so users could add there own printers instead of having to get an Admin to install the drivers.
Good point Ben - at least I know where to look now.
Top man :)
Hello,
Wasn't sure if this posting should go here or in the Windows 2003 Server forum - but here goes.
We have a snall Windows 2003 domain with around 10 network printers. The majority of clients are Vista clients with a smattering of XP clints.
The issue is - any Vista PC can see/connect to...
QUOTE: by default anyone can print to printers unless you change it.
Cheers for the reply. Put surely non domained (is that a word?) PCs can't print to printers that are on the domain. And also - I set printers up so only Authenticated Users can access them - not the Everyone group...
QUOTE: He is probably using IP Printing. Local drivers on his machine. No restirctions when done that way.
That is a possibility, and I'll check tomorrow when I go back into work - but I kinda doubt he knows how to do it that way. I would think it very unlikely he would even know that was...
Wow thanks for the speedy reply :)
The particular PC in question has been on the domain before with the same FQDN. In fact up until 3 hours ago is was on the domain before my collegue formatted it and started rebuilding it.
And do you mean to check if the computer is connectted through...
Hello,
I'm probably missing something obvious - but a collegue had a PC he was using that was not on our 2K3 domain. It was just in the standard workgroup as asssigned when building the PC. He asked if he could print to the network printers and I said he couldn't because we were on a domain...
Hello,
I have a situation whereby I want to add myself as a local administrator to around 40 Vista PCs on a Windows 2003 domain.
Is it possible to do this via group policy rather than log onto each individual machine and do it manually?
Thanks!

The original Vista copy engine would deliver a high-speed copy, but, because of the out-of-order I/O problem I mentioned earlier, trigger pathologic behavior in the Server 2003 Cache Manager that could cause all of the server's memory to be filled with copied file data.
Does that mean...
In the end I did resend the Desktop (CMIME) service book (deleted it from the BB then resent). This didn't fix the out of sync emails (so emails that had been read on the BB but still showed as unread un Outlook remained) but did mean that everything started to work again after the fix.
Hello,
I've gone a quick search and can't find a solution to this.
We have 14 Blackberry users running from a BES. Every now and again I find that the Reconcile Now option from the Messaging menu is missing - and the Email Reconcilliation Menu only has one option (Delete On only instead of...
Hello everyone,
Can anyone throw any light on any compatibility issues between ie7 and PAC files.
We use a proxy server when accessing the internet (in this case Messagelabs AV scanning) and on XP/ie6 the PAC file works fine. However - the same PAC file on a Vista/ie7 machine and the PAC file...
Hello,
We currently run BUE 11D - and backup up all our servers in one big job to tape.
However - I am wanting to split our one big job into smaller jobs (one for Exchange, one for file servers etc) and get one job to follow on from the previous job when it completes.
I understand the way to...
Ta for the reply Dave,
When you say SP1 fixes this to an extent - I guess it is not a complete fix then. We have 100 or so Vista PCs on site - and we are rolling out SP1 - we are about 50% through now. However it seems this problem happens on most clients - be it SP1 or not.
I suppose a...
Hello,
I'm wondering if anyone else has had any trouble copying large files (2Gb upwards) from Vista PCs to Windows 2003 shares?
I've just tried copying a 3Gb .pst file from a Vista PC to a share on a Windows 2003 fileserver - and the server hung for about 5 minutes while the file was copied...
