I could not find this info on the net, so when I figured it out I decided to document it.
Dell D430 D420 hard drive ribbon cable replacement requires releasing the zif connecter latch.
This latch it very very small. It is the little black plastic piece to the rear of the putty colored ribbon...
That is true but those instructions are not all together on one page in a step by step version that you can print out and just check off as you go.
The Dell instructions have multiple referrals to removing other parts ... it is not all together ... I decided to document the job all on one page...
I recently replaced the motherboard in a Dell Latitude D620.
There is a known issue with the Nvidia video chip on the D620 and D630 model and Dell seems to be willing to replace the motherboard if you are less than one year out of warrenty.
Here is my step by step that I used in conjuction...
My experience with these types of malware is they block any attempt to install many types of virus removal software. So the only choice is to go back to a time before the virus.
If your restore point has been infected too, then life if not good. Fortunately I have not encountered this problem...
I am an IT Professional and I picked up a nasty virus today on my home PC. I would like to post how I removed it to help others who are not professionals.
I picked up the virus browsing the web with Internet Explorer. I knew I had a virus because a FAKE antivirus program started popping up on...
I was trying to make a ghost image of a hard drive and my destination was a USB 2.0 stick.
I kept getting the error 662.
-ABORT: 662, Cannot create image file
I also had a USB mouse connected to the computer.
I disconnected the mouse and put the USB drive into the port the mouse had been...
Nice, and here is a newer version of the article from the same person. This one automates shutting down exchange services when ever the server is shut down, making the reboot faster.
http://www.msexchange.org/articles/Automating-Quicker-Exchange-2000-2003-DC-reboot.html?printversion
Sure I can disable them all manually ...
It was nice and quick in 5.5 to disable one service and have that prevent all services from starting up on reboot.
Was looking to see if there was a similar quick and safe method in 2003.
Thanks
On Exch 5.5, you could disable the System Attendant service and then all Exchange services would not start up on the next reboot.
What is the best method with Exchange 2003 to be able to reboot without exchange services running when the machine comes up.
Thanks
I use the Dell server install disk to load Windows 2003 and create an OS partition. Unfortunately that does not result in an "aligned" disk.
See this URL for background on what "aligned" means:

I have always liked Linksys routers except for this VPN problem.
I have WRT54GS version 2. I am a network administrator and could NOT after hours of research on the web get the basic windows VPN client to work on this device through a static IP DSL modem.
I finally gave up monkeying with...
I run IT at a medium size company. We are a Dell shop with laptops and desktops.
I just had my third D630 start freezing up with video streaking through the Dell logo on required hard reboot.
The freezing up is random and just starts happening. It slowly gets more frequent.
On one laptop it...
I built a new computer with XP SP2.
Then I downloaded the stand alone XP Service Pack 3 and installed it.
Then my Windows Updates would download and fail to install.
The solution is to go to Run and enter:
regsvr32 wups2.dll
and then press OK.
Once again, amazed at the end user having...
XMSRE,
I read article 815372 and your post. So are you saying that with 4G of ram and the /3GB entry in place, the store.exe process will only use 898MB of ram (plus other misc items)?
By the way I am not getting any Event 9665 errors about memory in Event viewer.
I just remember Exch 5.5...

I ran the Exch Best Prac tool and found this warning:
Server SFMAIL is running with physical address extensions (PAE) loaded
I don't see why that is running. I thought the bootini entry: /noexecute=optout turns PAE off.
Would that impact exchange not using all of the 3GB...
I have 4 Gig of RAM installed on Dell PE2850.
Exch 2003 sp2 - 100 users - 20G infostore
Bootini /fastdetect /3GB /userva=3030 /noexecute=optout
The store.exe never seems to go above 1 gig or ram. I was expecting it to use more of the ram I have installed.
Machine is running fine.
Is that...
With Exchange 5.5, I backed up my separate OWA server once a month by making an offline image of the disk using Ghost.
Now, my Exchange 2003 OWA is also my front end server, but there are no mailboxes on it. Will an offline ghost image backup of the disk work in this more complex environment...
