Yeah, I just don't have the time to pour through 200 pages of this... I tried converting it all to text and looked at that, but either way it's a manual effort because there is no logic to when it's being broken out into antoher column and when it wasn't.

your best bet is to generate your own SQL statements and use the power of your database engine, then you can use the functions that search for patterns as you desire, but that is a database function, not a cognos function that I am referring to.
in teh queries section, you can view the properties of the query you are referring to (the one you want to change), look for the Query property.... in that drop down box you should see your new query that you wish to use... change it there.
