DukeSSD,
Thanks for the post.
Unfortunately I have no prior experience of AIX, having previously work exclusively on Solaris, and do not as yet understand the concept or implication of committed or non-committed filesets. Hence why when I read the man page it doesn't make any sense to me at...
As a newbie to AIX, I'm proberly asking a very basic question but please bare with me.
I have just updated the Java runtime on a server from 6.0.0.1 to 6.0.0.175, which is comfirmed by lslpp -l as being COMMITTED, to correct a fault with an application. I would, however, like to rollback the...
Firstly, apologieses to all who posted for delay in responding but have had difficulty finding time to follow up postings - especially as Easter Bank Holiday weekend (UK) got in the way.
Can confirm that trunking not possible with 2503 (your were right ibknelson), which is what I was first...
Hi,
If I assign a secondary IP address from a different network to an ethernet interface, does the router perform routing between the two networks?
I.E. -
ip address 192.168.1.254 255.255.255.0
ip address 192.168.2.254 255.255.255.0 secondary
C2503>show ip route
Codes: C - connected, S -...
Burt,
Thanks for the posting, much appreciated.
Can't see that I am doing anything wrong, and C2503 still doesn't reponding to ping either as sender or reciever, so it does look like the router is faulty. C'est la vie.

Burt,
Did take down serial interface on C2503 and as suspected it made no difference, either pinging from or to the device. Therefore believe this just confirms that there is a physical fault with the router.

Burt,
Both serial interfaces on C2503 were assigned to subnet 192.168.254.0/24 simply to make it easy to use/move the single DCE/DTE cable I have between the two interfaces. In previous configurations where only one serial interface has been used, it has made no difference. Don't believe there...
Discussions via another thread have lead me to believe the problem is that the serial interface transmitters on router C2503 are not functioning properly.

jneiberger,
Have reset routers and created basic setup. As you'll see from details below not able to ping to/from the C2503 router. Tried with both serial interfaces on C2503. Same response/output when using C2611 rather than C2620.
When using C2611/C2620 (details not shown below) I am able to...
jneiberger,
Do not suspect serial interfaces on C2611/C2620 as when connected together both report in-bound/out-bound traffic, i.e. both transmitters/receivers working. This is supported by the fact the C2503 will receive routing updates from either router, i.e. their transmitters working. This...
Burt, have checked interface stats and can confirm that when connecting C2611/C2620 both report sending/receiving packets. However, when using C2503 and C2611/C2620 only the C2503 reports receiving. Would indicate cable fault, except cable works fine for C2611/C2620. Presume there is a...

jneiberger,
Will post show int and show run next week, as will be away from tomorrow until Tuesday.
Thanks for the trivia, which seems to confirm that there is an issue with the 2503 sending routing updates, i.e. nothing seems to pass down the wire.
Burt,
Did see your posting, but have not...
jneiberger,
Thanks for the reply.
As you'll see from the details below, C2503 can ping its own Ethernet address, but not its own Serial address or the address of C2611 (when attached). Similarly, C2611 pings its own Ethernet address, but not its own Serial or C2503.
You'll also see that when...
ejeangilles,
Did you ever get your 2600s and 2500 routers to exchange routing tables via serial link? Have a 2611 and 2620 and when I connect via serial a 2503 find that neither 2600 will update the routing table via the serial, while the 2503 happily updates it routing table via the serial. It...
Vipergg, thanks for the reply.
Have implemented 'ip classless' on both routers without effect, i.e. C2620 still does not update its routing table via serial while C2503 happily updates its routing table.
Have obtained a C2611 router and fitted a WIC-1 serial interface. Have found that...
North323, the issue is still that router C2620 does not discover network 192.168.3.0/24, i.e. it is not receiving, or at least not reporting via debug, routing packets via the serial link.
Having config'd RIP, IGRP and EIGRP on the routers C2503 will discover network 192.168.1.0/24 via RIP or...
