stats collection on DG affects standby database

HI We implemented active dataguard on an 11.2.0.2 database. We have a weekly stats collection job that runs against the primary node and gathers stats on select schemas dbms_stats.gather_schema_stats There are certain queries that subsequently hang when running against the read-only standby...

    oracle licensing on aix micro-partitions

Hi, I wasn't sure if this would be the correct forum as opposed to the AIX forum but .... My question is : Does oracle recognise Virtual Processor as a limiter in terms of licencing when an lpar is uncapped ? I know they recognise capped partitions and also shared pools as limiters, but what...

not able to add a group to SSRS

I had it before but I think it was because the SSRS server was on a differnet domain and there was no trust between both domains. Try adding a user who is a member of that group, just as a test. If that works then you'd expect the group to work.

    User access while snapshot replicating

I've given this a try and, as suspected, when the database is in single-user mode, snapshot replication doesn't work. So an alternative to this is restricted_user mode, which only allows sysadmin or dbowners to access the database, therefore replication works. I'm thinking of using a combination...

    User access while snapshot replicating

yes I was thinking the same thing, just thought maybe there'd be something built into replication itself that could handle something like this. I only have a small database to contend with here, but what if this was to happen on a database with thousands of tables, where applying the snapshot...

    User access while snapshot replicating

Hi SQL Server 2008 R2 We have snapshot replication setup, just on demand replication. There's an agent job that generates a snap at a certain time, then it subsequently calls the distribution job which replicates our data over to a target database. My question is, during this "apply" part of...

"Select * from view" takes a very long time,on second attempt

Ah Fred ! Fair play to you, thanks for the response (small world!) I did remember the SQL PLan management tool from last year or so when we discussed it. I've already started giving it a go, so I'll see if that solves the problem. On first execution I need to 'manually' load the plan to the...

"Select * from view" takes a very long time,on second attempt

oracle database 11g IBM AIX 6.1 Running a select * from a view takes just a few minutes and produces 60K rows. When running the same query for a second time, it appears to hang. It's actually progressing in the background but taking a very long time. The view is quite complex, many joins/sorts...

    P2V sql cluster

Hi we have a windows cluster (2008 R2 Enterprise 64-bit) Both nodes of this cluster contain several 'single-node' sql server instances (sql 2008 R2) The question is, is it ok to PV2 the lot ? I'm suspecting each node of the windows cluster could be P2v'd but then we'd end up with sql...

    ssh login with blank password

Hi My question is : Is it possible to configure ssh, without going down the route of setting up public/private keys, so a user is not prompted to enter a password? AIX 6.1 Also I know it's a security risk etc, but just need to know f it's possible. The web and this forum says it is, but only...

network connectivity to P750 dual VIO server

Hi This is no longer an issue for us but we're eager to find out how it was a problem in the first place. Basically we have a P750 AIX server with 4 dual ethernet cards. (There's a HMC connection and 2 LHEA connections that work fine). We assigned 2 cards to one VIO and 2 cards to the other...

Can O/S be changed from 32-bit to 64-bit?

I think this can be ignored, I found this info : How to Change Your 32-bit AIX Kernel to 64-bit 1) Create/overwrite your links to the Unix kernel: ln -sf /usr/lib/boot/unix_64 /unix ln -sf /usr/lib/boot/unix_64 /usr/lib/boot/unix 2) Verify: ls -l /unix ls -l /usr/lib/boot/unix lsvg -l rootvg...
