Hi
I used X-win on Windows XP and i kept that PC for a long time just to use X-Win since i couldn't find anything to use for Windows 7. However, i had to get rid of it and now i have the problem of finding one for Windows 7. Since i do still get calls every once in a while for AIX related work...
Good day
I have been asked to assist with the following issue, will really appreciate any help.
They are busy implementing Network Access Control and we need to know how to configure the AIX server (AIX 6.1) and clients (AIX 5.3) for it. The server and clients will need to import a CA-root...
Hi
I want our Samba server setup to allow any PC to access the share. At the moment we have a list of IPs that are allowed to access the share but since we are on DHCP the IPs change quite often. This is the setup:
# IBM_PROLOG_END_TAG
[global]
workgroup = vwza.emea.vwg
security = user

Hi guys, I tried to change his password again, for some reason it worked now. I logged in and everything seems fine. I was so sure it couldn't be something as simple as changing his password, since he has used the same one for many years now, I actually still remembered his password.
Thanks for...
Hello,
I used passwd unortjea, and then changed the password. I then logged in as unortjea, but was prompted to change the password. As soon as i did that, I got and error and the login screen went blank( I used X-Win to access his workstation). I don't know where that error will be logged. I...
Hi all

We have a server running AIX 6. Problem is, Windows PCs cannot connect to it. It seems that the server is not allowing remote connections from Windows PCs. Is there any way to enable that?
I found out today that it is not a NIM client to the master server. Is it best practice to set it up as one and to then do what you suggested, as i just ran into some other problems when i attempted that. My point is, should i explore that as an option rather than something else?
Hi. I am in the process of decomissioning 2 AIX servers. One server does not have a tape drive, so I attempted a remote backup, using the following commands:
bosboot -ad /dev/rmt0 -b /tmp/1_bosboot.img
mkinsttape /tmp/2_mkinsttape.img
mksysb -e -i -p /tmp/4_mksysb.img
The first 2 backups work...
I think it's fixed now. In .dtprofile, the line DTSOURCEPROFILE=true was commented out. I uncommented the line, logged out and logged in again and now it is working. Thank you for all your help.

Hi. Thanks for the assist, but there is still no change. This is the current contents of the .profile file, with all comments edited out:

There was a new server installed recently. On the terminal window, i start with the default # prompt, which i really want to change. In the .profile, there is an entry for a prompt:
PS1="$USER-`uname -n`:\$PWD#"
export PS1
Why can i not see that prompt when i open a terminal window?

We have 4 9114-275 workstations. After a period of inactivity, they go into power save/standby mode. Is there a way to disable this setting, even only temporarily (just for 2 days), on these workstations?
Thank you. I found the following lines in another user's .dtprofile:
export PS1="$USER-`uname -n`:\$PWD>"
export TMOUT=0
export PATH
And then:
. /etc/profile
Not sure why it worked, but when i copied that file onto the problem workstation and rebooted, it was fine afterwards.
